@TheAliceSmith There is no such thing as “magic ground” that makes some places prosperous and some not!
If you teleported the people of Japan to anywhere else, that place would become Japan.
Many of the loser children of my wealthy friends who see no way to emulate the success of their parents, have gravitated toward Mamdani-ism and found community and a sense of purpose by rejecting capitalism as a way to cope with their own failure. Please note they have nor however rejected their trust funds or living subsidies while pursuing their “passions” in NGOs, dabbling in the arts or trying to invest their parents money in “VC”.
@ramit This is happening just because of the concrete economics, sunk progress (demolition/financing), and strategic need for trophy NYC space for Citadel outweighed walking away.
Under the last ten years of liberal leadership, welfare costs in Canada have increased from 77 billion to 135 billion all paid for by Canadian taxpayers.
Canada is run on a pyramid scheme if you don't increase population, pensions and healthcare will fail. The number of working-age people for every senior aged 65 and older dropped from 7.7 in 1966 to 3.4 in 2022, and is projected to fall near 3. Young people now pay more tax's to support a failing system than their predecessors did and doubtful they will even collect a pension when they reach retirement age as Canada's birth rate is dramatically declining and is producing half of what is necessary to sustain Canada's pensions and healthcare costs.
David Friedberg explains why Mamdani’s government grocery stores will actually succeed in the short term, and why that’s the entire point.
They don’t need them to work long-term.
They just need the spectacle in time for 2028.
“I think that these things are going to create a radical Spectacle and exuberance for socialist policies that’s going to kind of light a fire for socialism around the country… they will be deemed a point of success, and they will end up being a big part of the fuel for the DSA going into 2028.”
According to Google it is OK to only want a Black doctor, but not a White doctor.
@Google produces clearly different answers based on race.
This is peak woke.
The level of stupidity here is off the charts.
Liberal government had $135M program to give away free motor bikes in Ghana but failed because there were no spare parts or fuel funding 🤦🏼♂️
ANOTHER $135M of taxpayer dollars squandered away with nothing to show for it and no reason for this program to exist to begin with.
We have whole departments of bureaucrats throwing money away at black holes with zero accountability.
Turns out Mamdani's wealth tax applies to any home over a million -- in a city where the average home costs $823,251.
Taxing billionaires comes at ya fast 😂
This is LITERALLY how you destroy an economy
You tax people to subsidize these community run grocery stores
But two things then happen
1) the people being overly taxed start to leave to places like Miami
2) shoppers leave traditional grocery stores for these subsidized community stores. Then the traditional grocery stores go bankrupt
Then the supply chain breaks down and even the commie stores can’t stock their inventory, at any price
Then people panic
Even more people flee
Then the government implements controls such as exit taxes
Then people hoard for themselves, stop working, turn on their neighbors etc
And the society descends into chaos
This is the story of the Soviet Union, Cuba, Venezuela, etc
Now coming to NYC!
Socialist economics
Grocery stores operate with 1-2% profit margins already so taxpayers will have to subsidize 30% discounts on groceries.
It also threatens to shut down local markets and bodegas (and reduce access to food), because they have to compete with the city stores, while also paying commercial rent and earning profits.
Remember, the government cannot *discount* anything, nor provide “free” stuff. YOU are paying for that with your tax dollars. This is just communist money laundering and will collapse in spectacular fashion, decimating local businesses in the process.
Making these government stores 30% cheaper requires taking that money from somewhere else while expanding govt power. Taxes, lost revenue, means-testing bureaucracy, gatekeeping, etc. As Thatcher said, socialism fails because eventually you run out of other people‘s money.
Worth a read. Bernard Arnault responds to the press.
@X has shifted the balance of power away from the media and back to the people.
Thank you @elonmusk!
