And when one of the workers (who witnessed the negligence first hand) was willing to testify about it— ICE jumped in and deported the worker before he could go on the record.
Abolish ICE.
I don't think children should have to reach out to their parents to "build" relationships. Adults always want to remind you that they're the adult until it's time for them to be the adult.
This is why you don't listen to them racists when they bring up crime stats. The system is, and always have been rigged for them. They get off so much, and way more never even makes it to a courtroom.
Seven years ago today, Atatiana Jefferson was killed by a Fort Worth police officer inside her own home.
She was just 28 years old and spending the evening with her nephew, playing video games.
Former officer Aaron Dean was convicted of manslaughter in 2022 and sentenced to 11 years, 10 months and 12 days in prison.
In 2023, Fort Worth approved a separate $3.5 million settlement for her nephew, Zion Carr, who witnessed the shooting. This August 2026, the city approved an $11.25 million settlement with Atatiana’s estate, one of the largest settlements in Fort Worth’s history.
Although a conviction and financial settlements cannot bring Atatiana back or undo the trauma her family has endured, accountability matters, and justice is a necessity, not an option.
Today, we honor her life and stand with her family.
Rest in power, Atatiana Jefferson.
Christopher Paul, 48, raped two 13-year-old girls 20 years ago. He was never convicted. Now he is about to become the new police chief for Elizabeth, LA. Republican candidate. You read that correctly. Now read it again.

Joniah Walker, who went missing from Milwaukee at 15 in 2022, has been found alive four years later in Virginia. Authorities say a man she had been talking to online for years arranged to meet her in Chicago, then held her captive the entire time. He now faces kidnapping charges.

On September 11, 2001, 11-year-old Asia SiVon Cottom was supposed to be flying to California for an educational trip to the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary. She had been selected by National Geographic as one of three sixth-grade students from the Washington, D.C., area chosen for the trip. Instead, she became one of the youngest victims of the attack on the Pentagon. https://t.co/MMBPiYjGHj
Asia lived in Washington, D.C., with her parents and younger brother and had recently started sixth grade at Bertie Backus Middle School. She sang in her church choir, participated in a dance troupe, loved reading, and was remembered by those who knew her as an energetic and curious child. Her library card and even a pair of Winnie-the-Pooh earmuffs are now preserved by the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. https://t.co/MMBPiYjGHj
That morning, Asia boarded American Airlines Flight 77 at Dulles International Airport with her teacher Sara Clark, fellow students Rodney Dickens and Bernard Brown II, two other teachers, and two National Geographic employees. They were headed toward California for a science-focused trip that was supposed to introduce them to marine research and the natural world. 911 Memorial
Instead, hijackers took control of the aircraft and crashed it into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. Everyone aboard was killed. Asia was only 11 years old.
What makes her story especially difficult to absorb is how ordinary her life was that morning. She was a student with a school trip ahead of her, not a historical figure who knew she was entering history. She expected to return to Washington with stories to tell her classmates about California and the ocean.
Her parents, Clifton and Michelle Cottom, later chose to preserve those ordinary details. They donated Asia's personal belongings to the 9/11 Memorial Museum and helped establish a scholarship program supporting young people interested in education and science. Years later, her family also coauthored Asia's New Wings, ensuring that her life would be remembered for more than the circumstances of her death. https://t.co/MMBPiYjGHj
September 11 is often remembered through enormous images and enormous numbers. Asia's story brings it back to the size of a child's life: a school uniform, a library card, a pair of earmuffs, a classroom waiting for her return, and a trip she never got to finish.
She was 11 years old. She had a future she had barely begun to imagine. Her family made sure that future would still mean something to others.
The “mass shooting” in Erie, PA was in fact a family annihilation event. A 45-year-old man with a registered firearm killed a 22-mo-old girl, a 5-year-old boy, 2 women, & 5 men.
He killed himself.
We still don’t know his name or the names of his victims. No one will ask ‘where was he radicalized?’ Media will move on. A reminder that every 5 days a man annihilates his family in the USA & men kill 2400+ women annually in gender based violence. Beyond horrific. My God.
