Pakistan’s current role as a possible bridge between the U.S. and Iran deserves recognition. If Pakistan helps reduce tensions through diplomacy, it is a meaningful moment.

But let’s also remember: this is not Pakistan’s first rise on the world stage.

Pakistan has reached major geopolitical peaks before, during the Cold War through SEATO and CENTO, during the Soviet–Afghan War under General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, after the September 11 attacks under Pervez Musharraf, and after becoming a nuclear power in 1998 under the leadership of Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.

Each time, Pakistan became highly relevant. Each time, the world paid attention.

But too often, after the peak came the dip.

Why? Because temporary strategic importance was not fully converted into lasting national strength.

This moment can be different.

To avoid another dip after the current peak, Pakistan must now prioritize:

• Economic strength over dependency
• Stable institutions over political chaos
• Trade and exports over aid reliance
• Education and technology over short-term optics
• Balanced diplomacy over bloc politics
• Internal unity over polarization

The world notices nations in crises.
It respects nations that stay relevant in peace. Being seen as a peacemaker can be more valuable than being seen only as a wartime ally.

Pakistan has had many moments.
Now it needs momentum.
