Hurricane fatigue is a real thing. After a significant hurricane event, many people who are no longer running on adrenaline will crash, both physically and emotionally. And it often doesn't happen right away, but sometimes weeks or months afterwards. You are not alone feeling this way, and it's very normal. But seek help if after a period of time, it doesn't get better.
Now for some good weather news... As (no longer hurricane) Milton moves away, slightly less humid air is moving into Florida. And beyond that, we may be seeing our first fall cold front clearing the state late next week. Hold on, summer & hurricane season are almost over.
"I am vengeance. I am the night. I am Batman." 🦇 Happy Batman Day! 🦇
To honor the day of the Dark Night, I'm sharing a coupon code for "The Boy Who Loved Batman" which opens at the @strazcenter on Oct 1.

My 25th school year has ended! Now it’s time to think of my next group of 22 little learners. There are many things needed to prepare for a new school year that will set my students up for success. Any & all donations are so appreciated! 🥰 https://t.co/h1rQ8aeRxt #clearthelist
Who's going to see @LesMizUS at the @StrazCenter this weekend?
I had the pleasure of seeing it in 2019. (Remember the cube on the plaza?) https://t.co/xqRlq9tVTh

8. Equality Florida, which was part of the lawsuit, called the settlement "a landmark achievement in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights in Florida."

7. The only aspect of the law that remains is a prohibition on classroom instruction about "sexual orientation" and "gender identity." Per the terms of the settlement, an example of this would be "teaching an overview of modern gender theory." This is not something that happens very often, if at all, in K-12 education.
6. Now, that's all changed. To settle a lawsuit challenging the law's constitutionality, Florida agreed to tell every school district the law doesn't apply to library books, does not prohibit discussing LGBTQ issues in class, and does not prohibit LGTBQ events, clubs, or symbols
5. Free speech advocacy groups repeatedly asked Florida Education Commissioner Manny Diaz to tell schools that the law did not apply to library books.
Their public and private pleas were repeatedly ignored.
4. Last September, for example, librarians in public schools in Charlotte County, Florida, were instructed by the school district superintendent to remove all books with LGBTQ characters or themes from school and classroom libraries.
2. With the explicit and tacit encouragement of the DeSantis administration, the "Don't Say Gay" law was broadly interpreted to mandate the banning of library books with LGBTQ characters, the cancellation of Pride Month, and the removal of rainbow flags.

1. @RonDeSantis is waiving the white flag on "Don't Say Gay"
He just agreed to a settlement that would limit the application of the law to a narrow set of circumstances that seldom occur in K-12 public schools
LGBTQ rights groups are calling it "a landmark achievement in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights"
