@KFerguson350 Brining my project to life is something I also would’ve loved to do. Creating a project on something me and my partner were passionate about was important to us, so the project was more enjoyable as opposed to being forced to pick a topic we dreaded researching and writing about
Overall, I really enjoyed my experience taking this class. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first signed up for it, especially because I was worried about the writing that came along with it. However, most of the assignment were fun and helped me become a more concise writer.
I think the Digital Humanities is the incorporation of digital technologies that allows us to answer and ask questions related to the humanities. It serves as an educational and interactive tool and allows us to study human culture and the effect technology has on human culture.
Peer review today was helpful like always. I have gotten my resume reviewed before, but it is always nice to get another set of eyes on it in case something went unnoticed. I hope my updated resume gets me a job! #cnuengl350
@bradya350 This was the case for me as well. After doing both drafts and peer reviews it makes a lot more sense how it all fits together. I look forward to improving our project together 🤝
I have made a resume previously in order to apply for jobs, however going over sample resumes and what they should/shouldn’t include as well as the correct order and position to place certain information in has been helpful in seeing how I can make mine better. #cnuengl350
The Grant Narrative peer review was beneficial just like all the other peer reviews. Reading the peer review rubric and seeing what is expected helps our group realize additional things to work that we might have missed. Also, having someone give their opinion always helps.
@AllyW1109 I think what was most beneficial for our group during the peer review was reading another groups environmental scan. It allowed us to see what they did better then us and what we could go back and include in ours, as well as unnecessary stuff we can take out of our draft .
Going over sample grant narratives in class on Wednesday was helpful for our group. Professor talked through each one and what specific paragraphs were about and what they included. These samples are a useful resource our group is going to use while creating our grant narrative.
The peer review in class on Monday helped me a lot with understanding more of what is expected in the Environmental scan. Reading another groups ES helped me realize things my group could’ve done better. Also, the other groups peer review pointed out flaws we didn’t realize.
@LSix642 Meeting with professor today also helped me realize this about the environmental scan. I was confused on what exactly to include or it include, but after talking through it and discussing our project it has become more clear as to what material should be included. #cnuengl350
After our meeting with Professor Stover today I was a lot more confident and sure of what exactly she is looking for in the environmental scan and bibliography. Also, talking about the direction of our project and what we specifically want to do helped. #cnuengl350
Starting the environmental scan was challenging at first. I was not quite sure if what I was writing was correct or if I was formatting it correctly. I made sure we just got our thoughts down and realize that our first rough draft is not going to be perfect and can be edited.
I really enjoyed viewing the project @JBernhardtDH350 reviewed. I am a big fan of The Lord of the Rings series, so going through the project was an enjoyable experience. Jack pointed out the “Middle-Earth in Numbers” sections of the project, which I thought was neat and…
they will not read any further.” This made me realize that my grant needs to draw the interest of the targeted audience immediately, so they want to keep reading and dive deeper into the proposal. If I fail to do this then our grant proposal we be unsuccessful. #cnuengl350
One quote from “Why Academics Have a Hard Time Writing Good Grant Proposals” that I found important was, “ Grant reviewers are impatient readers.Busy people with limited time, they look for any excuse to stop reading…if the proposal does not intrigue them by the very first page
and tastes of the grants reviewing individual or team members.” It is crucial to know your audience while writing your grant, so you can connect to the proper audience and be effective in achieving the ultimate purpose.
A quote that stuck out to me from “What goes inside a typical grant proposal” was “successful grant proposals must speak the language of the grants reviewer, when possible using turns of phrase or discussion patterns that reflect the age, language, regionalisms, nationality…
@DTasselli246 Although my project was not this extensive, I have viewed ones like this and have wondered the same thing. It is very impressive how much work has been put into these projects. It is obvious that most of these people working on the project are deeply invested into the topic.
