@kat_campbell99 This is so accurate! I am a big procrastinator so having to complete peer reviews was also a big motivator for getting the pieces done in time which I wish more professors would incorporate! This course has been the least stressful because of how manageable our timeframe was :)
As we finish up our Grant project, I really feel like I’ve taken a new perspective to my writing style. I’ve learned so much about how to say things with more power and less words.
Plus I got to learn more in-depth about Latinx culture through my project which was really cool!
This class has been an unexpected break in my course load! I really enjoyed every project we worked on & learning about this new discipline. DH is definitely something more people should bring into their workplaces because it’s such a universal and unique way to share knowledge
I really enjoyed today’s peer review. On one of my job descriptions @bradya350 left a comment about clarity that I hadn’t thought of so I was able to add extra information. Each review makes me feel more prepared to turn in the final project
I always forget how much I’ve done since high school until I looked at my resume recently and realized how outdated it was! Also learning the importance of adding role descriptions so that you have more concrete things to talk about has helped me so much! #cnuengl350
As we went over resumes in class today, I was shocked at how much I needed to change mine. I have had the same working document for my resume since I was 16, and it is definitely time for a change. I am nervous to restart, because of how much work I had put into the original but
As part of being in the Luter School we are required to have our resume reviewed by the CCP so I’m much more confident in the content I have now than I’ve ever been before! It’s a great resource that more people should definitely use #cnuengl350
So far all of our peer reviews have been extremely helpful. I don’t think I’ve ever had more successful peer reviews in other classes and I’m very thankful that we are all on the same page about what we need to be reviewing thanks to the review guided questions we’re provided!
@LSix642 I also really enjoyed the other student examples along side Dr. Stover's work because it shows what other people have been able to accomplish in comparison to a real in-progress grant so we get a larger variety of topics and tactics when writing our own work #cnuengl350
Writing the Grant Narrative after the Environmental Scan has been very helpful because we already had the logistics and research down before hand so we could easily rattle off bullet points for each section before writing it out in paragraph form #cnuengl350
Our peer review was very helpful because not only was my group able to get feedback, but we also were able to see how other students did their environmental scan and get more ideas on what to say & how to format a good mix of research & talking about how our project is different
After meeting with Dr. Stover the scope of the environmental scan became so much clearer. I have high hopes for how our grant project will turn out now that we have more research to build our project insights off of. #cnuengl350
I think the most challenging aspect of the environmental scan is figuring out how to specify my search words to give me actual DH projects and not just a bunch of research papers about my topic-even our databases have turn up very little pre-existing research on our topic
@JBernhardtDH350 I agree this has been very challenging! My group is actually having the opposite issue tho. We can't seem to find much that is similar to our topic/idea and so we have had to broaden our search to see if there is anything remotely close to it to add to our environmental scan.
I thought the same thing! I'm so used to the academic writing style that I am kinda nervous to work more personality into my writing while still being professional, but I think the differences shown in this reading will make it an easier transition for me
I would have thought that the grant writing should be impersonal and formal since that is how most of the papers I have read and written in college have sounded. It does make sense that the grant should be personal to entice the readers to connect with the project. #cnuengl350
@sophbaxt's review 2 did a great job explaining how the project worked and small critiques that would have improved the projects usability. Like in the project, I grew up in a victorian house built in the early 1900s & the history that existed between those walls was so amazing
most sense to me is that it is more likely to be fair use if as long as you don't profit financially off your published work that contains their work within it. If you did it could hinder their personal ability to license or sell their work
#cnuengl350
I didn't know what "fair rights" was before the copyright reading. I always thought as long as you cite something you can include it in a post or project, but there are specific guidelines to what is considered "fair use" in publishing works. I think the guideline that makes the
@JBernhardtDH350 Woah, this is such a unique project! I just watched all the hobbit movies for the first time over fall break so once I finish The Lord of the Rings and know what's going I may go back and take a look at it. How unfortunate some of the functions don't work tho :(
My review #2 is oral narratives from Latinos in Ohio. Since they are posted to youtube the subtitle translations are not very accurate, especially with the slang and partial english the interviewee's used. This gave me an opportunity to brush up on my Spanish skills :) #engl350
I really enjoyed reviewing @KFerguson350's project. It was very interesting to learn about the foundation of Haiti and their influence on the Atlantic world...I only wish I was fluent in Haitian so I could have read their constitutions 😂 #cnuengl350
