The music industry has spent years creating categories that separate artists by language, geography, and origin. There are Latin categories. There are African Music categories. There are now Asian music categories. Yet there has never been a "Best European Pop Performance" or a "Best North American Pop Performance." Why? Because Western music has always been treated as the default, while everyone else is expected to compete inside regional boxes.

Representation matters. Creating space for historically underrepresented music can be meaningful. But representation loses its purpose when it becomes a ceiling instead of a bridge. If artists from one part of the world are consistently redirected into regional categories rather than being judged equally in the main fields, the system stops celebrating diversity and starts institutionalizing separation.

The goal should never be to keep Asian, African, or Latin artists in their own lanes forever. The goal should be a music industry where origin is no longer treated as a qualifier for artistic excellence. If there is no need for a European category because European artists are already considered part of the global mainstream, then every artist deserves that same opportunity. Music should be divided by genre, not by where an artist was born.
