First, Scandinavian countries are being consistently ranked at the top in economic freedom, which implies a very low governmental intervention to the market. They are even more capitalist than the US.
Second, since every single communist nation has become a brutal dictatorship, it’s a feature of communism, not a bug.

FYI, Scandinavia is also pretty capitalist. Even more capitalist than the US. If you want to see the socialist economy, you should check out North Korea, Cuba, or the USSR.
By “free” I mean exactly the same thing as any economist - minimal government intervention to the market: low level of general regulations, easier to start a business, lower capital control, lower subsidies, the list is too long. And let’s not forget about the property rights and freedom of association
