Kwame Nkrumah wrote a book called Neo-Colonialism: The Last Stage of Imperialism in 1965.

In it he argued that formal independence without economic independence was not real independence.

That the control of a country's resources by foreign capital, even without colonial administration, was a form of continued domination.

The United States State Department sent a formal protest to the Ghanaian government about the book.

A formal diplomatic protest.

About a book.

The following year, while Nkrumah was on an airplane to Hanoi, the Ghanaian military staged a coup.

The CIA's involvement is documented.

The book was published in 1965.

The coup was in 1966.

The Americans protested the book in 1965.

He was overthrown in 1966.

The sequence is not subtle.

The idea that neo-colonialism existed was itself enough to trigger the mechanism.

You did not have to be armed.

You did not have to be Soviet-aligned.

You did not have to be violent.

You had to be right.

Being right about how power worked was sufficient to activate the termination signal.

The label would follow. The operation would follow the label.

This is the system that the word "communist" built and maintained.

It is still operational.

The word changes.

The sequence is the same.

South Korea in the early 1960s had roughly the same GDP per capita as Ghana.

South Korea industrialized through massive state intervention.

Government-directed credit.

Explicit industrial policy.

Protected domestic industries.

Export subsidies.

Technology acquisition strategies that Western economists would call theft.

A developmental state that looked nothing like the free-market model being sold to the rest of the developing world at the same time.

South Korea is now the fourteenth largest economy on earth.

Ghana followed the IMF program.

Ghana is still Ghana.

And the economists who designed the program that didn't work for Ghana will tell you with a straight face that South Korea's success proves the importance of good institutions and human capital.

Not the protectionism.

Not the industrial policy.

Not the state direction that violated every principle they were simultaneously imposing on Ghana.

The conclusion is always written before the research begins.

I insist that NO Ghanaian should be charged any application fees to serve in a security service only for 90% to be disqualified.

Charging your citizens seeking employment? These public institutions have annual budgets and must entail cost of recruitment.

The practice is extremely wrong on all fronts and nothing but plain exploitation!!

1. Ring Road /Beach Road Junction
2. Marley Dada at La Junction
3. Giffard Road Junction
4. Kpeshie Lagoon Bridge

These intersections are part of the abandoned road projects along this corridor.

The situation at peak periods leave much to be desired .

I have been to the site this afternoon with my engineers and contractors. As a remedial action, I have directed an immediate action that will significantly reduces the negative impact of the existing situation.

We hope to see an improvement within 2 weeks . Together, this one also shall be resolved.
