@animocabrands@ysiu@kbwofficial The shift toward AI agents influencing how we browse raises big questions about user agency.
How do you see tokenization protecting personal data?
I'm turning 40 soonish. Running and raw list of my greatest accomplishments & biggest failures:
ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
🔥 Won the Pulitzer Prize of collegiate journalism during my senior year at University of Kentucky, where I was the editor of one of the largest daily papers in the state, the Kentucky Kernel
🔥 Convinced the prettiest girl at the college party to give me her phone number (only took multiple message requests and a little begging—anyways, we've been married for 16 years)
🔥 Pivoted my career from journalism to advertising. Achieved my goal of becoming a creative director by 29 & realized I didn't want it
🔥 Took a startup from my basement to millions in revenue + partnerships with $B companies
🔥 Raised $8M in venture capital in Kentucky, which is a feat in itself
🔥 Built a brand that touched millions of people and had hundreds of thousands of users. Named social app of the year by multiple news orgs
🔥 Helped found 3 amazing kids
🔥 Managed to do well financially despite never making six figures until I was 37 (startups are a b**** on your financials but pre p@ndemic bets on NVIDIA & EARLY on Amazon have helped 😂)
🔥 After my last startup failed, I started a new company that has been profitable since month 1. I'm bootstrapping software this time around. (The company is Prologue and our product is Premise)
FAILURES
👎 Did not call my mom enough while building out my last startup
👎 Missed milestones for my children and wife that I should have been there for, all so I could travel for my startup
👎 Was once fired unfairly and under the guise of a lie from the CEO. I retaliated by deleting some of my work from the server. Easily the most embarrassing thing I ever did in my career and I have shame about it every time I think of it, almost 14 years later. (They did recover it.)
👎 My startup ran out of momentum and cash after the long tail of c0vid caught up to us. We failed. I couldn't even sell the IP. We lost $8M.
I have other failures. They're personal. From a business perspective, I really just have that one line about the company. I think some people who ask me about it think it comes with a million regrets.
It doesn't.
Because we had a million things we got right, too.
It just didn't work at the end of the day. I'm not ashamed of it anymore. It was embarrassing as hell when I went through it, but I've come to be proud of what I did accomplish.
I've come to realize I have more to be proud of through my accomplishments, because most people sit at their desk, dreaming of trying and taking the leap. I did the thing, and we made it longer than most apps ever do (75% are dead by year 3—we made it 8 years).
Beyond that, the company brought people together. Many of them are still friends today. They're still hunting and fishing together. I'm still friends with many of them.
I hope to be around for another 40, but I'm not banking on it.
Got more accomplishments to add to this list.
And probably a few more failures too.

@OptionKing666 The shift to watts per token really reframes infrastructure economics. How much do grid interconnection timelines typically add to campus activation?
this might be the most pointless AI tool i've found today...
every day it gives you an AI generated image and you have to guess the prompt that made it
zero productivity and zero reason to do it..
obviously i'm going to try it 😂

The Opendoor Carry Trade Presented by the Shopify Mafia (26Q2 Earnings Review)
What we are witnessing, I believe, is a new era of executives who departed Shopify to write their names in technology company history. This group I coin the Shopify Mafia: Kaz Nejatian (CEO), Giang LeGrice (COO), Lucas Matheson (President), Morgan Brown (Chief Growth Officer), Margaret Syms (Chief Information Security Officer), Fahd Ananta (Product lead buy-side). What the Shopify Mafia is building at Opendoor is not a real estate company with better software, as the market may view it, but it is the financial infrastructure layer for the largest asset class on earth.
I believe @Opendoor is reaching an inflection point. For the first time in its public company history, we see a flywheel that is self-activating through improved COGS, a non-linear jump in acquisitions, and improving inventory health that shows homes moving faster rather than sitting on the balance sheet. From a startup narrative, I call this product-market fit. As I have written in my deep-dives before, I treat Opendoor as a late-stage VC investment in the public market: a high-beta stock, which strongly bets on management and company vision but is priced on the past. The better you understand that, the more alpha you capture.
As Kaz said on this quarter’s earnings call: “While other tech-forward firms have spent years chasing unicorns, we’re coining a new category: the Pegasus. Not a company that was magical from the beginning, but a company that had to grow its wings in public.”
I read confirmation in this sentence with the views I have had in my previous takes. I see a carry trade in how the market prices heritage versus where the company is at today.
