@stephen_richer@JTLonsdale Next level is deciding to dedicate your entire professional life to defending:
the wisdom behind every election system—no matter how ridiculous
the integrity of every election worker in the nation and
the competency of every county bureaucracy running elections
Weird stuff
@Shelley4America@EdWhelanEPPC Yea, because you’re a consistent longtime Dem registered voter.
Of course you wouldn’t be the target of ballot harvesting—you already vote!
Harvesting targets low propensity voters
@kausmickey Ballot harvesting is only possible by lack of photo ID requirements
Take NC’s law—want to mail in a ballot? Submit with it a photocopy of your drivers license
Forcing ballot harvesters to get the voter to photocopy their ID before giving them the ballot would end the practice
@f2aler@EdWhelanEPPC Or…you know, they could just vote in person.
If you want to vote by mail but you decide not to do it because making a quick trip to the library or CVS to make a copy is just too much work —maybe it’s best you sit this election out
@stephen_richer@AlexanderMcCoy4 Oh man I never thought about it like that
I guess check washing/fraud doesn’t really exist
I mean you’d have to forge a signature-do it well-and hope they don’t call the bank ohh and you might even get caught!
A criminal would never go through all that trouble …wait a minute!
@henryolsenEPPC@geronl The bottom line is the process is ripe for fraud—we don’t leave the keys in our car when we head into a store because we don’t want it stolen—but somehow we are to believe that political operatives are a unique class of Americans who wouldn’t break the law given the opportunity
@henryolsenEPPC@geronl It’s like leaving the candy bowl out on Halloween!
If you mail ballots to every voter & only 20% are sent back-then you have millions of ballots out there that nobody cares about
Except that a few people who REALLY do care.
But I’m sure none of them fall into the wrong hands
@henryolsenEPPC@geronl Im not sure the details of the petition process in CA but in NY every ballot spot requires petition signatures of party voters.
The voter signs & these petitions are kept by candidates, campaigns and FOILed all the time for GOTV
Marching signatures is not very difficult
@SeanTrende As a father of a daughter w/Mosaic Down Syndrome, that was one of the most true and beautiful things I’ve read in a while
It’s hard to express the immense joy coupled with occasional thoughts of “what if” & “why her” (or him)that comes w/the territory—but you nailed it
God Bless
@shipwreckedcrew Dude, she just announced her husband just got diagnosed with a terrible rare bone cancer….
But I’m sure the 2032 election is really on what’s on her mind right now
@DataRepublican Here is data from 2022 ACS survey of age by 10yr range
Sorry for small image. I have the age bands for the district then age bands for each county discussed, then a column showing if age band exceeds district average in a given count (green)
Interested how it tracks to turnout
@dilanesper Yup you even see it with IEPs in elementary school.
A system set up to provide support for kids w/special needs to help them meet the highest educational goals they can achieve—is now overrun w/kids who just don’t pay attention, get bad grades by lack of effort etc.
@IslesFix That’s like complaining about spending money on a top rated QB right after the one year out of 20 when the Super Bowl winning QB was not a first ballot HOFer
@DKThomp I’d say the change in parenting from “just be home by curfew”
to “I need to drop you off, pick you up & know who’s going to be there”
to “I’m tracking your precise location via App every 15 mins”
has definitely affected ability to engage in things like drinking at parties
