How to get into cloud engineering: learn IT fundamentals, build Azure or AWS projects, document a home lab, practice networking and backups, then use help desk or sysadmin work as the bridge.
When Mumias Sugar Collapsed the entire economy around it also collapsed.
Frame 1: These dilapidated one-roomed houses is where sugarcane truck drivers lived. Those who remained behind are now living in squalor.
Frame 2: This was a very active commercial centre inside the complex, just a few meters from the factory. Here, there was:
- Post Office
- Bus Booking offices, in fact, Easy Coach parked here all the way from Nairobi.
- Police Station
- Shops, the first Mumias M-Pesa in 2007, were set up here.
- Nation had an active courier shop here.
Frame 3: These are offices of Asians who were contracted to transport cane. They owned hundreds of trucks and tractors. The place is now a shell.
Frame 4: Former employees of the company have resorted to doing menial jobs like burning charcoal to make a living.
Fuck you, Kidero.
Dear men, those 4 books on masculinity you keep circulating amongst yourselves won't grow your knowledge.
Their content is juvenile at best.
Delve into spirituality and consciousness, philosophy, geo-politics and war literature.
Study Sun Tzu, Thomas Hobbes, Carl von Clausewitz, Rène Descartes, Immanuel Kant, Alexandre Dugin, Laozi and Confucius.
Kenyan men are very funny creatures, One minute he can't afford Chapo dondo at a local kibandaski. The next minute anapiga deal moja unamwona na Mercedes. Never outwrite a Kenyan man.
The first time I encountered these fellows was in 2025 in subukia . It was also the first day I discovered that GSU officers don't distinguish between suspects, witnesses, passersby and curious wananchi. To them, all are one family. Hawa hupiga hata mbwa na kuku.
I had left school at 5pm. I decided to spoil myself kidogo. I bought half a kilo of meat, some greens and an avocado pale kabazi. The plan was simple: go home, cook, eat like a king and sleep.
As I was walking back to the house, I started hearing noises from the direction of kwa shosho , motorbikes revving, people shouting, the usual soundtrack that tells you "mind your business."
Right then deputy called. She needed to know what I was up to, my plans for supper. I also told her the situation in town. Her response was clear: "Enda nyumbani."
Such a loving wife. Such wise counsel.
Unfortunately, curiosity is a disease.
I saw people running away from somewhere and instead of joining them, I walked towards the danger. Every Kenyan man believes he is an undercover detective until reality arrives carrying a rungu.
It turned out Mr jofri Gachagua was to visit the place but rival goons caused chaos . Swords were out. One person had already been rushed to bahati sub county hospital looking like he had attempted to hug a panga.
Two police officers arrived.
They assessed the situation.
The situation assessed them back.
Nothing changed.
A highway patrol vehicle arrived with two more officers. The crowd looked at them the way a buffalo looks at an intruder.
We were busy watching the feud to a point we didn't see the GSU arrive. They didn't come with a siren. No. The siren went on when they were right in front of me with men already in the air jumping from the police mini truck. Some of the police were screaming and wailing "uuuuuuuuiiiii kujeni sasa!"
At that moment wananchi discovered they had urgent appointments elsewhere.
Buana, we ran.
I learned that day that fitness is a state of mind.
There was one short, round, heavily fortified mama (waithera) who overtook me inside a teargas cloud. This woman passed me like I was parked. I was running at full speed yet she disappeared into the horizon.
After about 30 minutes the teargas reduced.
I saw a few motorbikes using the highway and concluded the police had left.
This was my second mistake of the day.
The second was assuming GSU ever leaves.
I started walking to kirengero. There was a mother and child ahead of me so everything looked peaceful..then I spotted two officers beating a man near a petrol station.
One of them suddenly noticed me.
"Wewe unafanya nini hapa?"
I immediately presented evidence of innocence.
"Afande, natoka kabazi. Hizi ni mboga na avocado."
Notice I did not show him the meat. Afande would have taken my meat. Wakora sana! I wasn't born yesterday.
The officer looked at me,looked at the avocado,l ooked at the greens.
Then concluded that I was indeed innocent. To celebrate my innocence, he gave me one of the hottest slaps ever delivered to a human being.
My entire leg went offline. The officer then shouted: "Toka hapa! Kimbia!"
The amazing thing about Kenyans is adaptability.Five seconds earlier I could not feel my cheeks.Three seconds later I was running on one leg like a gazelle escaping a lion. The human body is truly remarkable.
The next morning I couldn't stand.
Kiplangat Benson came to my rescue with some gel and a leg massage.
When deputy returned, she found me with a walking stick.
The smile she gave me still lives rent-free in my head. It was not a smile of sympathy but rather 'I told you to go home you didn't listen.'
As for GSU officers, I remain convinced they are fed on a strict diet of pilipili, bangi and unresolved anger. There is simply no other scientific explanation.
@MonicaMAlmaguer Leadership implies a subordinate
Leadership implies a hierarchy
Leadership implies authority
Leadership implies obedience
Leadership implies respect
If you cannot accept these aspects of leadership, you cannot expect the benefits of leadership.
Soulful men should avoid feminists, and soulful women should avoid red pill men (who are, at this point, just the male version of feminists).
Once you understand how each thinks and why, and have extracted the useful lessons, continued exposure is simply soul rot.
If you insist on maintaining proximity to something that is actively degrading to you, if you have an outrage prone orientation, then you also have poor spiritual hygiene.
You are wasting precious bandwidth that could otherwise go on the instructive and compelling. You are denying beauty your gaze, so you can look at filth, and lord over it with your ridicule.
And that compulsion reveals something about you: you have allowed yourself to become ugly, by allowing ego to subsume too much of your soul. Time to fight back.
The saddest thing an outlier can do to themselves is:
Marry a normie.
It’s the closest thing to killing yourself without actually killing yourself.
You are signing up for the eternally unfulfilled life. You quite literally would be more fulfilled alone - no exaggeration.
Depends on the woman: Lay it all on the table, tell her why you cannot afford certain luxuries in the moment, and MORE IMPORTANTLY what you are doing to improve yourself and the timeline you have in mind. Then let her decide.
Secondly, there are so many activities you can do together in the city without spending much. Be inventive. Go to parks like Arboretum. Attend artistic exhibitions at National Museum etc. Visit libraries like MacMillan. Go to literary forums at places like the Goethe Institute & Kwani (Sarit). Attend Night of laughs. All these are practically free. For movement, Matatus suffice if you are without means. Matter of fact, these places are so close to each other you could literally just walk and lose a few calories while at it.
When I was in campus, I once went to a shop in Njugu Lane. CBD to look for flowers. The lady at the shop quoted an outrageous price and when I expressed shock, she asked who they were for, I told her my girlfried. She pulled out two stalks, handed them to me at no charge. Told me to not keep my girl waiting. There is so much grace that the world affords you when you are intentional about the things you want.
But it begins with the kind of man you are. The woman you select is more often than not a consequence of you and your aspirations. In flourish and privation, I have never suffered a woman who did not complement my character or aspirations.
Breathe in, breathe out. You are good.
