[MTS @MTSlive]

.@bratton argues Yudkowsky misunderstands evolution, and explains why AI may never converge into one giant superintelligence:

"Without being too spicy, I don't think Yudkowsky really understands evolution as well as he thinks he does."

"It’s a very low-resolution understanding of evolutionary dynamics applied to what will inevitably be a much more complex problem."

"There will be giant models, in the same way you might imagine scales of species in a rainforest. They’re not all operating at the same spatial and temporal scale."

"Whether this all collapses into one giant brain, sure, it’s possible, and the reasons may have more to do with economics and politics."

"But biology has never arrived at a solution where it’s going to make one giant instantiation of a particular form of mind and consolidate everything together."

I want to live in the world bratton describes way more than the world anthropic/dario describes

[Chris Goldammer @floor_per_area]

@matttitudinal Within 0.3 miles of a subway, there are 275K lots.

Median FAR = 1.5
25% = 0.75

If we set a minimum FAR of 2.0 for them, this would increase zoned capacity by 450M sqft, enough for more than 500K units.

[m @other_work]

i've started a youtube channel (abookanaxis) to study, share, and discuss books that i love. i've been working on this for ages as i wanted to ensure it felt valuable as a net positive to the internet and not just be more content that hacks your attention and makes you feel sick.
