Was so happy be a part of the Herb Lubalin lecture series for type@cooper, where I shared Character Development — a look at the history of Japanese subtitle lettering, and how Sato Hideo and his son Takeshi shaped the contemporary 'cinema moji' style.

If it's not mandatory, I think this is great. There's so many things that I didn't know before moving here, and I would have loved basically a tutorial for how to pay taxes and useful phrases for daily life. Garbage is usually easy to figure out, but sure why not.
Japan's Immigration Services Agency has reported on a planned “Japanese Language and Daily Life Learning Program” for foreign residents.
Some details from media reports:
•it will include studying Japanese-language & "rules and manners for daily life"
•the Japanese language requirement has been described as "basic"
•the "rules and manners" will include learning about topics such as how to pay taxes and properly dispose of garbage (residents sort garbage into different categories depending on local government rules)
•the required standard should raise according to the length of a person’s period of residence
•it should be offered online
•it should be available to people abroad who are planning to come work in Japan
•after completing the basic study program, participants should be able to take more specialized courses in topics such as "childbirth and child-rearing, education, and nursing care."
•participation should be required for people applying for long-term visas
•for permanent residency and citizenship applications, the "level of understanding" should be important, rather than just participation
•the national government should run it, not local governments (right now, local governments bear the burden of trying to integrate foreign residents)
Japan's ruling party, which ran in recent elections promoting the idea that foreigners should follow Japan's "rules," has called for a trial launch from fiscal 2028.
It looks like Prime Minister Takaichi will be increasing immigration to Japan and trying to ease public concerns by requiring residents to take very simple online courses.
I have not seen any media reports about people who passed various levels of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) being able to opt out of the program.
You are mourning the loss of a parasite that contributed nothing to the actual work of making games. Yes, games will probably be expensive for the foreseeable future, but at least the people who make them will get paid.
I think regulation and alternatives for digital storefronts are important, but the 'middle man' being cut out here is just gamestop. When you buy a used game from them, zero of that money goes back to anyone involved in making it. You're just giving gamestop money for nothing.
Absolutely dystopian day for gamers everywhere. Yes, even you who doesn't care about physical games and has a fully digital library.
All this does is funnel everyone into digital storefronts where PlayStation and co. control the pricing operation. You will lose additional options and pay more for games. Look at any nearby storefront's pricing versus what you'd pay for with that very same game on PSN.
This is not about upcoming handhelds or even that digital purchases outweighing physical. It is about maximizing the dollar spent everywhere and cutting out the middle man. Pulling the trigger when PSN isn't even feature complete with things like back compat, gifting games, has major security exploits, etc. is certifiably insane.
Nintendo removed the description of The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Remake.
This no longer appears: "Experience Ocarina of Time with stunning visuals, updated designs, and timeless gameplay."
This might've been something meant for a later trailer.

girlfriend is enjoying widow's bay but she doesn't know how to pronounce matthew rhys' name so every time she says 'matthew rice is a really good actor' it takes me a few seconds to understand what she's talking about
On the other hand, most Japanese people are so afraid of buying something from a stranger that Craigslist and similar websites never really took off there. Japan had to use Mercari, which uses QR codes scanned at convenience stores. That's lower trust than America.
In Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, placeable UI elements are unlocked as the game progresses. While the game tries to prevent clutter, with intentionally bad placing it is possible to cover the entire screen in UI, making the game look like a parody of bad interface design.
I've seen the polling but I feel like this is still a little bit generous considering we haven't met those 53 ON candidates yet. they are likely to be complete shitshows.
ignoring all the other problems with this, I do wonder how far nintendo will use or at least allow racist control mechanisms to fix their overly commoditized products
Pour lutter contre les scalpers, le Bic Camera Ikebukuro a mis en place un quiz Pokémon obligatoire.
15 questions basiques sur l’univers Pokémon à réussir pour pouvoir acheter des cartes.

I've developed the habit already, but I can't stress enough that if anyone see shit like this, just block immediately. These paid accounts are untenable, and the site will be completely unusable if it continues. Immediate block and move on, don't even engage.
hey man, thanks for surviving the frost area of the game. here's a ring of frost resistance, it’ll help you take less frost damage in the future. Anyway good luck in the fire area. Oh no they don’t do frost damage there haha. They actually take half damage from frost weapons too
