I recently had the opportunity to talk about The Petition Co at a @dctechmeetup event themed around building Smart Cities
Nothing makes me more optimistic about the future than sharing the stage with brilliant founders like Sherrod Davis of EcoMap (centralizing business ecosystems), Nanbo Liu of OpenGrid (accessible fast EV charging stations) and Levern Currie (drive-thru communication tech for non-verbal people).
the whole "rigged for Argentina" online discourse is a great case study on how the general population is frighteningly easy to manipulate with simple propaganda. and how it's especially effective on the less educated, or "casuals"/"larpers"
The “dystopian portrait” that’s been painted of America is not accurate, @yairlapid argues. He reflects on what his travels to and through the U.S. have shown about the source of America’s success—and struggle. https://t.co/Ht9mhYTayg
Last month, I went to Manifest, a conference about prediction markets.

NEW: Xinjiang has the highest detention capacity in the world, according to FT analysis - enough space for almost 1 in 40 people in the region - more than five years after the Chinese govt announced the camps had closed.
Really interesting article from @newlinesmag providing a deep dive on the "Idlib-ization" of power in Syria, and how Syria will need to move beyond regional biases to succeed

The Syrian president just fired the only Druze minister in the government, replacing him with Bassel Sweidan. Sweidan is a former HTS official who ran the War Spoils Committee for HTS. The Committee was later converted into a private company called Iktifaa'. After Assad's fall, the Iktifaa' company took over state enterprises from Assad's era and properties of former regime officials and financiers/war criminals like the Qaterji brothers.
Iktifaa' has also taken over the management of farmland owned by Alawis who were ethnically cleansed by forces of the current government from villages and towns in Hama after Assad's fall. See STJ report https://t.co/Mk8QZS8JUK

There are many reasons to be optimistic about post-Assad Syria, but there are also negative signs; ignoring either of those gives readers/followers the wrong picture.

New reporting from Bloomberg shows Iran has 22 more days of available storage.
“The Islamic Republic has enough unused storage capacity to last another 12 to 22 days, Kpler analysts wrote in a report Monday.”
But even more importantly, they highlighted the time horizon until Iran would feel that economic pain.
“Still, the blockade won't hit Iran's profits quite as fast, with the impact to revenues not due for about three to four months, Kpler said.”

Magyar was harrassed and provoked constantly. His phone was tapped with military spy software. His girlfriend turned out to be a Fidesz agent. AI slop was generated about him and fed to voters on the daily. Russian agents helped create smear campaigns against him.
