“America was never a Christian nation!”
British Parliamentary report from 1774: “If you ask an American, “who is his master?” He will tell you he has none-nor any governor but Jesus Christ.”
Thomas footnote: T. Aquinas, Summa Theologica:
[F]oreigners “were not at once admitted to citizenship” because “if foreigners were allowed to meddle with the affairs of a nation as soon as they settled down in its midst, many dangers might occur, since the foreigners not yet having the common good firmly at heart might attempt something hurtful to the people.”
Men of old also asked how to have a “happy marriage.”
They just had better answers to the question.
Here’s Benedict Pictet (1655-1724), nephew of Francis Turretin.
I’m going to resist the urge to text @AbigailShrier bc her phone must be blowing up with everyone saying:
This is the best advice column I have ever read in my entire life.
I am a voracious reader of advice columns, I literally have read thousands.

If you want to know whether or not something is from God, take a look at the fruit. Is it giving joy, peace, goodness, faithfulness, self-control?
Or is it causing anxiety, discouragement, anger, frustration, and leading you to sin?
Take a good hard look at the fruit, because the fruit never lies.
I’m convinced that 99% of a successful marriage is just genuinely enjoying each other’s company. People make these long lists of traits they want to find in a partner, but so much of life just comes down to being kind and pleasant to be around.
