REJECT ICT AUTHORITY BILL 2024
On a daily basis, the IT sector in this country seems to be attacked by very greedy individuals whose aim is not to regulate but to control this industry and profit of it. The ICT Authority Bill 2024 is now up for public participation and here are some controversial things about this bill:
- Centralized Regulatory Power: The Bill aims to centralize ICT regulation under a single Authority, which could be seen as overly centralizing control.
- Increased Bureaucracy: By establishing the ICT Authority, the Bill aims to create a comprehensive regulatory framework, potentially adding layers of bureaucracy.
- High Compliance Costs: The Bill aims to enforce strict licensing and regulatory requirements, which could impose significant financial burdens on ICT businesses.
- Regulatory Overreach: The Authority's power to impose fines and revoke licenses aims to ensure compliance but could lead to concerns about arbitrary enforcement.
- Potential for Corruption: The Bill aims to concentrate regulatory power, which could increase opportunities for corruption within the Authority.
- Exclusion of Stakeholders: The Bill aims to streamline decision-making within the ICT Authority, potentially limiting involvement from diverse stakeholders.
- Economic Burden on Government: The Bill aims to establish and maintain the ICT Authority, which could strain government resources and divert funds from other areas.
Join us this Friday, the 12th, at 7 PM for a critical discussion on the #ICTABill2024. We will have all ICT stakeholders in Kenyaβgovernment, private sector, and individualsβto participating. Our goal is to gather and submit comprehensive feedback to the government.
Spread the word, and see you there!
