🇷🇼🤝🇿🇲 Learning across borders to strengthen access to justice!
iPeace and the Danish Institute for Human Rights (DIHR) organized an enriching Zambia–Rwanda exchange on legal aid and paralegals. It connected DIHR’s work in Zambia with iPeace’s experience providing free legal aid and raising awareness of rights in correctional facilities in Rwanda.
A valuable opportunity to share practices, reflect on challenges, and learn how to better support people seeking justice.
The exchange took place under Promoting Justice and Human Rights in Rwanda, funded by the Embassy of Denmark in Rwanda.

How do we ensure that capacity building continues beyond a project?
By investing in people who can pass their knowledge on.
Together with @LegalPracticeRW, iPeace has trained 480 judges, prosecutors, lawyers and RIB officers on plea bargaining and victim–offender mediation. Among them, 27 were selected and have just completed a specialised training of trainers, helping their institutions develop internal resources for future capacity building.
The initiative supports Rwanda’s Criminal Justice Policy through our Uhaki Bila Mipaka project, with support from the Kingdom of the Netherlands, in consortium with International Alert and Pole Institute.

Glad to join the 5th African Business and Human Rights Forum in Dakar. Around 700 participants from 80+ countries are discussing how to advance responsible business in Africa. As a member of @AfricanACCA, iPeace is bringing perspectives from our work on Digital Transformation, Business and Human Rights.
Responsible business must include a path to remedy when harm occurs. From our work, we know how much accessible information, safe complaint channels and practical legal support matter to affected communities.
Access to justice belongs at the centre of the HRDD discussion.

We sincerely thank @ICRC_rw for this valuable contribution. These publications will enrich IHL learning among students across the Great Lakes region and support participants in the 11th Great Lakes Regional Training on IHL and IHRL in Nairobi.
The @ICRC_rw has donated International Humanitarian Law (IHL) publications to @iPeace_GL , to strengthen IHL knowledge among students in Rwanda and the region.
The publications will also support the 11 th Great Lakes Regional Training on IHL & IHRL in Kenya, 5 – 10 October 2026.
Our survey confirmed that ADR can make justice more accessible and restorative—but its potential depends on people understanding the mechanisms available to them.
Following our campaigns at Huye and Nyamagabe Correctional Facilities, we reached 10,906 inmates at Nyarugenge Correctional Facility with information on Plea Bargaining and Victim-Offender Mediation.
By raising awareness of how these mechanisms work, we are helping inmates make informed use of them in pursuing their cases.

From January to July 2026, we steadily expanded both our geographical reach and the number of people accessing our services.
In just 7 months:
📢 66,000+ people reached
⚖️ 5,100 people received free legal aid
🏛️ 230 clients represented/assisted in courts
🤝 431 cases resolved through advocacy
This expansion is demand-driven and has been possible because we do not work alone.
With support from the @NLinRwanda , the Danish Institute for Human Rights, @giz_rwanda and The Stirling Foundation, and through close collaboration with local authorities and justice-sector institutions, we are reaching more people in more communities.
Strong partnerships. Wider reach. Greater access to justice.

What a remarkable start: More than 13,243 inmates reached in a single day!
Yesterday, Huye Correctional Facility welcomed the launch of our awareness campaign on Plea-Bargaining and Victim–Offender Mediation with overwhelming participation and positive feedback.
Today, we bring the same energy to Nyamagabe Correctional Facility as we continue promoting informed, fair and restorative justice.
We are grateful to the @RCS_Rwanda and all justice sector partners for making this possible.

What happens when judges rethink their role in justice?
The answer came from our previous cohort, where many participants shared that the training changed their understanding of their role in implementing Rwanda's Criminal Justice and ADR policies.
Today, in partnership with @LegalPracticeRW, welcomed another 50 judges for the 7th cohort on plea bargaining and victim-offender mediation.

The journey continues. Following our high-level symposium and previous cohorts, the 5th Cohort of training on Plea Bargaining and Victim-Offender Mediation has commenced.
50 judges, including Presidents of Intermediate and Primary Courts, are spending the week strengthening practical skills to advance fair, timely and restorative justice.
Together with @LegalPracticeRW, we are helping turn Rwanda's ADR and Criminal Justice Policies into practice.
Thanks to the support from @NLinRwanda.

#HappeningNow: Today in Nyanza, in partnership with @LegalPracticeRW, we launched the 4th cohort of our capacity development programme bringing together over 40 justice practitioners for training on Plea Bargaining and Victim-Offender Mediation as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen justice delivery and promote restorative approaches within Rwanda’s justice system. In total, about 480+ justice actors are targeted.
Together, we continue building a justice system that is effective, responsive, and people-centered. Investing in justice actors means investing in access to justice.

Access to justice begins by meeting communities where they are.
Today, iPeace joins fellow stakeholders at the Joint Action Development Forum (JADF) Open Day in Busanze Sector, @NyaruguruDistr. At our stand, citizens are receiving free legal aid support and answers to their legal concerns.
We are honored to contribute to this important platform for community engagement and public service delivery.

Ever wondered how far a shared name could take you in the criminal justice system?
For one man in Rwanda, it nearly led to a miscarriage of justice. After eight months in detention, the truth finally emerged.
Here is the story of HS.

From the boardroom to the grassroots! 🌍
Yesterday started with a consultative meeting with justice sector leaders at district level—including the Chief Prosecutor, President of the Huye Intermediate Court, MAJ coordinators, and district officials—for a critical dialogue on legal aid and Alternative Dispute Resolution across @HuyeDistrict, @GisagaraDistr , @NyanzaDistrict , and @NyaruguruDistr.
We were thrilled to have our partner from @giz_rwanda Rights-Based Program join us in the field to see the impact firsthand with our mobile legal aid clinic in Mamba Sector (Gisagara). Together, we are bridging the gap to justice!

🚐📚⚖️ Productive days in the field with our partners as we visited different districts where Haki Project activities are implemented with the support from the @NLinRwanda.
We engaged with communities benefiting from Mobile Legal Aid Clinics and visited @LegalPracticeRW where project-linked trainings continue to strengthen justice actors and legal service delivery.
The impact since the project launch in January 2026 is already tangible:
🔹 864+ persons supported to access justice
🔹 87 persons represented before courts
🔹 200+ local leaders trained
🔹 Increased outreach to vulnerable communities
This is what people-centered, results-driven implementation looks like.
