A federal judge in Maryland Thursday ruled that Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s detention lacked legal authority and was inconsistent with due process, ordering his immediate release from the Moshannan Valley Processing Center.

Abrego Garcia has filed a lawsuit in federal court alleging the Trump administration is using the deportation process to punish him over the public outcry of his illegal deportation to El Salvador.

Abrego Garcia’s attorney confirmed his release early Thursday evening.
