Bad Bunny's full message to ICE and all republicans during his Grammys speech is SO important:
"We're not savage. We're not animals. We're not aliens. We are humans, and we are Americans. Also, I want to say to the people...I know it's tough not to hate on these days, and I was thinking sometimes we get contaminamos. The hate gets more powerful with more hate. The only thing that's more powerful than hate is love, so, please, we need to be different. If we fight, we have to do it with love. If we don't hate them, we love our people, and we love our family. And that's the way to do it, with love."
You’re almost there. Lemme help you get over the finish line
Left to right:
Breonna Taylor 2020: killed at home by police serving a no knock warrant that had nothing to do with her. Police were acquitted
Sonya Massey 2024: killed by police officer after calling them to her home. Officer was just sentenced to 20 yrs
Atatiana Jefferson 2019: killed by police after a neighbor called the NON EMERGENCY number bc she said her front door was open. Police shot through the window. While she was on the couch with her 8 yr old nephew. Officer was acquitted of murder but convicted for manslaughter. 11 yrs
Fred Hampton 1969: chairman of the black panther party was killed in his home by 14 FBI agents as part of cointelpro. Spurgen Winter Jr was also killed in this shooting. When they thought fred would survive they shot him two more times in the head at point blank range. They also tried to charge the other 7 panthers for attempted murder in the shootout. Those charges didnt stick. They shot 90+ times into the house with only one shot from black panthers coming from a misfired gun. They also Fred’s pregnant wife who survived along with her child. Agents weren’t charged.
Crazy right? Almost like it’s been happening for decades huh?
Keith Porter’s murder wasn’t captured on camera, so it’s allowing ICE to sweep it under the rug, but we need to keep talking about him just as much as we talk about Renee Good and Alex Pretti. None of us are safe from this campaign of state violence.
As you may have heard, “The Thing” has been added to the Library of Congress. We made the movie to push against the edges of what we could pull off, and it carries that strain in its bones. Seeing it now treated with the same care and reverence we had making it means a great deal to me and everyone who brought it to life.
I especially want to remember TK Carter, who brought heart and humor into that desolate, frozen place and should be standing here with us today sharing in this recognition.
Thank you to everyone who continues to keep it alive.
Stellan Skarsgard uses his Golden Globes speech to advocate for movie theaters:
“In a cinema, where the lights go down and eventually you share the pulse with other people, that is magic. Cinema should be seen in cinemas”
