Rogers Mato's Heart of Midlothian—who haven’t been league champions for 66 years—finished the regular phase as leaders with 70 points after a 3–1 win over Motherwell.

Their closest rivals, Rangers and Celtic, also ended the first phase with victories and remain very close behind.
