@postlelab oh stop you are making me blush
the non-story with the _ is that I was an edgy angsty grad student when I registered for twitter, a phase I believe you had witnessed first hand 😀
Once you get past the first 5 minutes of me bumbling around clearly in need of media training, we settle into a nice groove talking about fitting mechanistic models, ML/AI for neuroscience, degeneracy and its potential benefits for biology (plus some good chuckles).
Episode #38 in #TheoreticalNeurosciencePodcast: On extracting spiking network models from experiments - with Richard Gao @_rdgao
https://t.co/Gmlbch02P4
How to fit spiking network models to experimental data when there is no unique parameter set giving the best fit.
I'd have nothing to talk about on this episode if not for my paper co-authors in the @mackelab, as well as Pedro, Jan-Matthis, and Michael paving the way with SBI.
I'm extremely grateful for Gaute for having me on the show. All the work from his group advancing our understanding of the LFP has influenced me since day 1 of my PhD. They say never meet your heroes but I think this time it went pretty good.
Thrilled to announce I'll start in 2026 as faculty in Psych & CS @UAlberta + @AmiiThinks Fellow!! 🥳 Recruiting students to develop theories of cognition in natural and artificial systems 🤖💭🧠. Find me at #NeurIPS2025 workshops (talk at @CogInterp & organising @DataOnBrainMind)
2️⃣ days until #NeurIPS2025 Data on the Brain & Mind workshop! 🧠💭🤖 Join us on Dec 7 for a full-day interactive session 8am-5pm.
Authors, plz remember to RSVP for mentorship lunch🥙 generously supported by @KavliFoundation and @SimonsFdn (@FlatironInst)

If comp neuro, ML, and AI4Neuro is your thing, or you just nerd out over brain recordings, apply!
I'm at neurips. DM me here / on the app or email if you want to meet 🏖️🌮
Luckily goodbye is temporary and many are coming to Bernstein in a week.
If you’re also at Bernstein and want to chat about science, life, or whatever, send me a message!
p.s. Frankfurt is probably the easiest place to leave whether you need to fly or take the train. FYI.
I've been waiting some years to make this joke and now it’s real:
I conned somebody into giving me a faculty job!
I’m starting as a W1 Tenure-Track Professor at Goethe University Frankfurt in a week (lol), in the Faculty of CS and Math
and I'm recruiting PhD students 🤗
Lastly, on that note about people:
4 years in Tübingen flew by, and I truly had to adjust to "the village" when I first came.
But now I really, really cannot imagine leaving.
I’m thankful for so many people’s support, guidance, love, and sheer buffoonery.
