No matter your politics, it should appall you that the media outlets which claim to care the most about "misinformation" suppressed coverage of South Africa's case against the Gaza genocide, but fully covered Israel's defense the next day—intentionally denying you the full story.
muslim and arab (especially palestinian) colleagues in the tech community i've spoken with feel uncomfortable speaking about their recent experiences, often out of fear of retaliation and damaged career prospects.
our industry should be united in our support of these colleagues; it is an atrocious time. i continue to hope for a real and lasting peace, and that in the meantime we can treat each other with empathy.
@Mikel_Jollett So that justifies air strikes on kids? On refugee camps? On hospitals, mosques, churches? Just shouting Hamas is not an excuse for atrocities. Amazing that I have to say this out loud. 20,000 dead. From Israeli air strikes. The rest of the world sees the double standard.
I challenge you to read this statement from the White House today… but… change the words Russia, Ukraine, and Putin to Israel, Gaza, and Netanyahu.
Go on. Do it. See for yourself.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken's propaganda is not hard to break down but many Americans don't notice it. To begin with, Hamas's attack on Oct 7th is called a "slaughter" but nothing Israel ever does is called a "slaughter", even though Israel has killed many thousands including thousands of children.
Two million people. Half children. Starved. Bombed. Cut from communication.
Have those facilitating this thought much about the future this leaves us? No.
Some may dismiss a ceasefire as naïve or worse. Yet who has a plan for what follows this destruction? What do we call that?
I repeat my call for a humanitarian ceasefire in the Middle East, the unconditional release of all hostages, and the delivery of life-saving supplies at the scale needed.
Everyone must assume their responsibilities.
This is a moment of truth.
History will judge us all.
🇵🇸🇮🇱 We should be seeing a lot more videos out of Gaza right now.
Israel didn’t want their war crimes documented so they cut off the internet.
@Israel The WORLD will remember this.
Cutting off all communication to a population of 2.2 million is unacceptable. Journalists, medical professionals, humanitarian efforts, and innocents are all endangered.
I do not know how such an act can be defended. The United States has historically denounced this practice.
I have been informed that I am being replaced as the Editor in Chief of @eLife for retweeting a @TheOnion piece that calls out indifference to the lives of Palestinian civilians.
