Still it haunts me every time.

A young Tamil man sits huddled with his head in his hands. He is bloodied, bruised and stripped completely naked.

A Sinhala man wearing glasses is aiming another kick with his right foot. He is looking at the camera and smiling.

This is one of the most infamous images from the Black July pogroms of 1983. It has been shared for decades, around the world.

43 years later, the perpetrators have still not been identified. And we still do no know who that Tamil man is or what happened to him.
