PRESS RELEASE: UCU Hallam secures major win as Sheffield Hallam University drops plans for subsidiary company.
See https://t.co/5Zhu5wrTj7 for more info.
@ISinkovits@shearernorthern Plenty of workers are winning through Trade Union action; since 2021, Unite has had over 1,600 disputes (85% win rate), securing over £620 million in better pay.
But a union is only as strong as its membership. We need active members, and we must elect the best fighters to lead.
@Re_Unite_Union@dunny61a@SimonDubbins67 First of all, your candidates got heavily defeated in the EC elections.
And now, we see that Team Dubbins campaigners have been found GUILTY of breaching rules, and the returning officer for the election has forced the campaigners to remove the content.
Under my leadership Unite's membership has grown for the first time, including a 17% increase in young members.

I promised 5 years ago that I will always fight for workers. Together we are winning, together we are fighting and together we will continue fighting to deliver on jobs, pay and conditions. #LetsContinueTheChange
@IanJones_16@AndyRobi I understand other fans slagging off the chairman.
But it’s kinda weird to wish bad luck on all the players and all the staff at the club just because the chairman & 1 or 2 senior figures have acted like knobheads.
@IanJones_16@AndyRobi As a Forest fan, nobody I know is talking about this Palace victory in the context of the ‘falling out’
We had an absolutely fantastic European journey - comfortably beaten by a better team in the Semi’s.
Palace qualified for the Europa Conference and won it, fair play to them.
@Dykeocletian On a local level, we have had open and detailed discussions with “Greens Organise” activists. Sadly, their attitude towards austerity was the same as Labour councillors (ie, no actual opposition, “just do what we’re told”) — but of course I acknowledge this is just 1 example
@Dykeocletian I agree it’s a worthwhile discussion, and it’s possible that some Green members could be won over to a socialist programme. I’m in SP and we have regular discussions on the political and tactical approach to exploring this: maybe not entryism but general orientation to GPEW…
@Dykeocletian The Labour Party meetings, and democratic processes in the 70s and 80s were very different to Green Party in 2026.
I’m not sure your point really stands given the completely different scale, composition and nature of the things you’re trying to compare.
@Dykeocletian This may be true now, but the Militant’s entryism stopped in 1991.
In the 70’s & 80s there was much higher Union density. And crucially, the relationship between the Labour Party, Trade Unions, and the class was very different then compared to now.
@mjdaly57@ChrisCorney1@unitetheunion That’s simply not true
S Graham hasn’t been perfect, we’ll agree on that. But under her leadership, Unite have had many disputes against the Labour government, and Unite has slashed their funding to Lab.
We should welcome this new pledge to let the members decide on affiliation
@JaneParshally@ChrisCorney1@unitetheunion Because it’s not her decision to make, it has to be a result of Unite’s democratic processes
Even though this is a slow process, we should welcome this clear commitment that we will get a vote on stay/go.
The other candidate (Dubbins) won’t give clear answers on this key topic
Let the members decide!
Labour affiliation… Should we keep it? Or end it?
Unite’s record of winning industrial fights has been very good under Sharon Graham’s leadership.
Couple that record with this pledge to deliver democracy for members - and support Sharon Graham #unite
Labour needs policies and a programme of real change, not just a personality makeover. I will ensure Unite reps and members get a vote on whether they want us to stay affiliated to Labour. That work is now beginning and I will inform our Rules Conference in 2027.
@AnnieMM_M@UniteSharon I’m a Unite member, working in the NHS.
Starmer’s govt is making huge cuts; literally thousands of redundancies and millions of pounds going into the private sector.
Sharon is right to say that members should decide whether *our* union keeps or ends the Labour affiliation.
