When Shueisha and Gege want fans to open their wallets, they encourage us to connect with these characters like they’re real people we should care about and spend on. But now that Gege’s cashed in and wants to wrap up the story, he’s treating the characters like disposable tools, expecting fans to just forget about them (even though, ironically, Shueisha still seems interested in squeezing out more money from them). So what does that say about how they view fans’ emotions? Are they just something to be flipped on and off at their convenience? Shame on Shueisha and Gege for treating fans this way!

Shueisha is truly pitiful. Because of JJK, Gege gained fame and wealth that will last him a lifetime, but what did Shueisha get? Shonen Jump's decades-long good reputation was sacrificed, simply because Shueisha turned a blind eye to Gege's irresponsibility in the later stages of JJK, while continuing to promote it. Even if Gege stops drawing manga in the future, it won’t matter to him, but Shueisha will forever bear the burden of this huge disgrace in the history of Japanese manga.

Many gegegaggers resent Gojo stans, believing Gojo’s prominence overshadowed the development of other characters. They were convinced that once Gege removed Gojo from the story, other characters would finally receive balanced power scaling and more attention from the author.

As the only character in JJK with such massive attractiveness, Gojo became a phenomenon, driving merch sales and piquing interest among both readers and non-readers alike. It’s common sense that as long as Gojo’s storylines are handled well, the series would maintain its momentum. However, Chap236 and 261 deeply hurt Gojo fans, and the way things ended inevitably turned away many who had high expectations for jjk as an IP. Many of the fan-created content surrounding JJK revolves around Gojo.

But this is Gege, not your typical manga artist. Even during Gojo’s three-year absence due to seal, the MCs still didn’t see much growth or development. Many readers criticized the Culling Game arc for being overly complicated and boring, with the MCs growth and their moments in the spotlight being underwhelming Gojo’s limited but impactful presence connected various character arcs and served as a crucial pillar for the narrative. It’s undeniable that Gege invested a great deal of effort into Gojo, whether to capture readers' attention or drive sales. Gojo’s character was undeniably successful, transcending the story itself in ways other manga characters rarely do. Gege’s failure to properly manage Gojo’s role left a significant impact on the series, as the broader audience's perception of jjk is closely tied to Gojo.

After 236, Gojo’s death not only devastated his fans but also drew harsh criticism from the general audience. Many hoped that Gojo’s departure would finally give other characters the chance to shine. However, the backlash against Gojo became so intense that it no longer mattered what he had accomplished earlier in the series. Even though Gojo was fundamentally a "good guy" and played a key role for the MCs, he became a target of criticism—mostly because of his overwhelming popularity.

Gege’s handling of Gojo’s death and the subsequent Sukuna battle didn’t satisfy those who expected more after Gojo was out of the picture. Even with other characters still alive, discussions remained centered around Gojo, leaving little room for others to gain the attention. Gege seemed unable to address this imbalance, leaving the issue unresolved.

Ultimately, this was Gege’s failure. The other Jujutsu High characters were poorly developed and lacked depth, with the story ultimately relying too heavily on Gojo. The traditional Shueisha-style shonen formula played a role in this, but Gege’s fragile handling of character dynamics caused the arcs of the students to fall apart too easily. Killing off the only truly popular character further alienated the fanbase, leaving many dissatisfied.
