@DailyHiveVan People want higher density and more affordable housing, and this is a good step towards it. But then those same people are like “omg ghetto”. The problem may be that the design is ugly, but that’s most non-luxury new builds.
@Prominent_Bryan Immigration in Canada, until very recently, wasn’t a controversial issue. It’s the only way a western country can avoid a demographic crisis.
@Prominent_Bryan The chart shows the average which isn’t a representative statistic unless the income distribution is normal. Sadly, it doesn’t look like stats canada reports the median for disposable income.
No one has a problem with taxes… we all have a problem with how tax dollars are being wasted.
If you really think an extra bit of income tax will fix the terrible management issues of the BCNDP I’m a bit shocked at your naivety.
HAPPENING NOW: David Eby frames the election as, “Do you want an MRI machine or not?”
With $90 to $100 million — a rough estimate of the cost of his snap election — you could buy roughly 15 to 45 MRI machines depending on the costs of each machine and the installation.
@Dave_Eby That’s a lie. The wealthiest don’t report regular income that you can easily tax. Say it as it is - you’re taxing professionals because it’s too hard to actually tax the wealthiest.
@BowinnMa “Everyone” only includes our drug addicted population, who the NDP government is keeping barely alive and growing. It doesn’t include your average working class persons.
There’s no good option to vote for during the upcoming BC election. What I want is: neither cut nor raise taxes, cut spending, reallocate funds from enabling drug addiction to containing the problem, respecting property rights, pressure cities to deregulate housing dev.

@ruffdeezy@JarrydJaeger Do they tax your property if the value goes down? What if the value is below the purchase price? Think, think.
That said, wealth tax only makes sense at a country level.
@canuck5551 There’s nothing wrong with taxes if they are spent well. BC spends 70k-100k+ a year to support a drug addict but like $15k per child across K-12/childcare. How working parents are not outraged at this mismanagement is beyond me.
@JarrydJaeger For all neoliberals who think that taxing unrealized capital gains is unconscionable, how do you justify property taxes based on assessed value?
@pmcondon2 Are your graphs proving a counterpoint? Take Montreal. According to the graphs, the ratio of housing to population growth is much higher than in Vancouver and so it has higher affordability. Jk, these graphs say nothing of causality or of anything of value for that matter.
