He sees fades and had no choice but to try to work back on top of the plane and get back to fades in 2024-25. The idea that he made a choice to blow everything up and change his swing after a career year in 2023 is flat out incorrect.

He was slipping underneath the plane little by little, and basically rode a wave playing a draw through the end of that season knowing that his swing technically wasn’t in a sustainable place for him.

@TronCarterNLU If he had stood there and said very calmly and humbly “I’m really close and playing great- things don’t always go your way, but I’m on the right track”, he’d have probably left as the favorite for the Open. As is, he’ll be under a microscope in a no-win situation

@TronCarterNLU The nature of Rory’s departure and acceptance (or not) of the loss also can either 1) deescalate or 2) fuel the “haven’t won a major since 2014” narrative pressure. By reacting the way he did, things will be harder going forward, not easier.
