@shaunmmaguire Read "The Ominous Parallels" by Leonard Peikoff, it's dense philosophy but shockingly prescient. Understanding the roots of this might be the only way we can stop it.

Ask why it makes socialists feel good to weaken the talented and promising. Ideas like egalitarian education are driven by spiteful envy, not naive idealism.
@Nikos_17 Guessing: it offers some narrowly good advice. If you're doing something hard, push through. If something hurts, grit your teeth and keep going.
In the short-term, these are handy maxims, but aren't good moral principles. Particularly unhelpful if you're being sacrificed.
