Dad, organizer, contributing editor @newrepublic, co-host @fightfascismpod, lawyer working to hold Big Oil accountable for climate crimes. Opinions my own.
WOAH
@NY1 anchor last night: "Major fossil fuel companies and their executives could be charged criminally for their role in causing climate-related extreme weather events...and the concept has been endorsed by a number of New York city and state elected officials." LFG!!!!
We’ve been doing extensive focus grouping and polling on this exact question (what to do with a majority) and I cannot stress enough how awful this advice is
Elon Musk is STAGGERINGLY more problematic than the cherrypicked worst of Hasan Piker, and IMMENSELY more powerful.
The Republicans are evil, but they are a competent political party.
So their versions of Neera Tanden do not lift up the other party's talking points.
400 Jewish Democrats in Michigan -- including some big donors -- just published a letter declaring their support for Mike Rogers.
El-Sayed had recently been trying to mend fences with Jewish skeptics in the state. I spoke with one of them -- the Democratic fundraiser @charles_gaba, who is reluctantly supporting El-Sayed -- about undecided Jewish voters' concerns.
Among other things, we discussed whether El-Sayed can win over skeptics without disavowing anti-Zionism

Here’s the relevant part of the Harvard dean’s email, in which he suggests (“modestly”) that professors teaching writing intensive courses should encourage AI use. And of course this gets dressed up in woke moralizing about policing students and damaging “trust.” End times stuff.
Actively joining the far right's war on higher education in order to shield a genocidal ethnostate that most Americans increasingly want nothing to do with. As usual, corporate Dems are both undermining our democracy *and* dragging down the party's brand.
"people are realizing that the left-to-right divide isn’t as important as the divide between the working class and big corporate interests" writes @AaronRegunberg in his excellent piece - thank you!
‘A kid growing up today will never be smarter than AI.’
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has urged ministers at the G20 tech summit in North Carolina to embrace AI, warning that failing to do so would be comparable to rejecting electricity during the industrial era.
Stunning to tweet this at the literal same time that victims of a climate flood -- triggered by the collapse of a glacier melted by years of historic heat -- are being loaded into mass graves. Are people like this paid fossil fuel shills or just actual psychopaths?
The planet will keep getting hotter, even with ongoing efforts to slow the temperature rise. But choices exist.
Every fraction of a degree prevented, and every year by which the overshoot period is shortened, will save lives, protect ecosystems, and reduce economic losses.

I should note that Nation contributor @AaronRegunberg was much kinder to LOTR just last year. He said the books helped him renew his commitment to the practice of hope. https://t.co/iHUMd4Q6wu
It's really heartening to see the base of the Democratic Party so thoroughly reject the centrist establishment's "throw the vulnerable under the bus" strategy. Dems' corporate elites may be awful, but actual Democratic voters are mostly good, caring people. That's awesome!
Moulton was part of that weird Nov 2024-Jan 2025 trend where a bunch of blue state Dems (Newsom, Torres) decided that Trump winning meant that the U.S. was permanently socially conservative and they had to throw trans people and immigrants under the bus as quickly as possible
Imagine living like this for FIVE YEARS. Your entire life. This is what mother pigs endure in factory farms across the globe.
My wife @rose__patterson and her org @AnimalRising released this footage at a supposedly high welfare farm today. This has to stop.
JUST IN: Voters in Independence, Missouri's fifth largest city, have recalled a city council member who had supported a data center.
This follows regular local elections in April where they ousted two city councilors for the same reason.
Dems could be speaking with one voice about Trump denigrating 75% of the country. They beating the drum on a supermajority issue that's lighting independents on fire. Instead centrists are talking about Hasan Piker and fueling GOP attacks on DSA.
They're traitors to the party.
A flash flood in Nepal killed at least 955 people, with 4,471 still missing, including at least 85 Americans.
This isn't just a climate change catastrophe. It's a crime.
For decades Big Oil knew fossil fuels would lead to disasters like this.
Big Oil must be held accountable.
In which @Patrick_Wyman argues that local American elites are not untouchable supervillains but "fucking idiots" that can be beaten, and Aaron responds with a story of Dunkin franchise owners trying to bribe him with Dunkin gift cards.
The Ahern ad of her reading the form language off the plaque she got when she left the AG's office is genuinely embarrassing. It's like my 5-year-old showing off his child soccer league participation trophy. But, like, if my 5-year-old were running for attorney general.
Kim Ahern was a prosecutor for several years.
But in 2018, no-one then in the office or out of it suggested I ask her to LEAD any of the over a dozen units in the office
I didn’t promote her. Neither did any of my predecessors
That is a big contrast between these 2 candidates.
