LESSONS IN PEER REVIEW. @AnnaMTrier@aaronverheul submitted this paper in 2023 to @jacionline and it was outright rejected due to lack of mechanism. We are big fans of mechanism, but what made this paper so convincing to us was not fancy mechanism. It was ORTHOGONALITY. This is a major component of scientific rigor that reviewers often do not consider. We were able to validate so many aspects of the biology based on existing datasets from both mouse and humans from OTHER labs. This is what gave us tremendous confidence in our own findings. I ran into the Chief Editor in the public restroom at the annual @AAAAI_org and I told him that enhancing mechanism would be great, but it would be costly, and not change the impact. He invited us to resubmit. This paper is now required reading for the maintenance of certification for Allergy and Immunology.
1. Orthogonality is one of the greatest elements of rigor.
2. Data that cuts like hot knife through butter, may not always be fancy, but is a sign of robustness.
3. Editors matter.
4. You know the longterm impact of your own work better than anyone else.
5. Be ready to advocate for your science, even in the restroom.
just built a fully automated Wojak meme generator in Glif in 5 min:
Claude 3.5 block generates the meme as JSON
ComfyUI block uses a Wojak Lora to generate a fitting image
JSON extractor + Canvas Block ties it all together

Please see our new preprint online @biorxivpreprint and under review under the new @eLife model. This project has been going for 10 years after we repeatedly observed that Rag-/- get more severe #type2#inflammation in the #skin than #adaptive#lymphocyte sufficient wild type mice. We believe this is in part due to intrinsic #ILC2 dysregulation due to #RAG deficiency and why patients with #Omenn syndrome get severe #eczema despite lacking #Tcells. We also think this paper is a perfect paper for the new @elife model. Congrats to @aaronverheul for completing what was started and greatly advanced by @madisonrmack and pushed forward by so many including @tamamamasatti@PhDTing Lydia Zamidar. A true labor of love and pain! One of the most challenging projects!

Couldn’t have had a better time at the @aaaai meeting after missing the last few. Great to see my mentor @itchdoctor and catch up on fantastic new science in #allergy. Already looking forward to next meeting in #WashingtonDC, hopefully with more #neuroimmune!
BIG NEWS today the Mark Lebwohl Center for #Neuroinflammation and #Sensation + @MSHSDerm@SinaiBrain Nash Family Dept #Neuroscience has officially signed Dr. Hongzhen Hu as the new Scientific Director to help build our new Center in the beautiful West Manhattan Campus

@itchdoctor@NIH@NIH_NIAMS Many thanks to all my #mentors, #colleagues, and #family who helped get me here, and thanks to the reviewers @NIH_NIAMS for sharing my excitement about my proposal. It’s nice to get some extra wind in my sails from a good score!
