In India, some Hindu men converted to Islam for 4 Rupees and Hindu women for 2 Rupees.

To calculate today's monetary value:

1 Rupee then was an 11 gm Silver coin. So, today's Price of Silver (70 Rs. per gram), that 1 rupee of that era = roughly 700-800 Rs. of today.

So women's conversion 2 Rupees = 1400 Rs. as of today., and men's conversion 4 Rupees = 2800 Rs. of today.

Also, there were special taxes (Jizya) on non-Muslims, which you were exempt from if you were Muslim. So, it was additional motivation for some people to convert.

When British started taking over the southern part of India in late 18th century, most of today's Karnataka was called Mysore, while most of today's Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh was called Karnatak (Carnatic).

Mysore became Karnataka later.
But why TN + AP called Karnatak then?
