New York’s original Pennsylvania Station opened in 1910.

Its monumental waiting room, inspired by ancient Roman architecture, was demolished beginning in 1963.

A building intended to express the city’s confidence and ambition survived barely 53 years.

Its destruction became a defining event in American architectural preservation.

Cities should consider carefully what future generations lose when historic landmarks are demolished for immediate commercial gain.

A Tiger Woods swing I was lucky to capture myself in 2018. Love this swing

✅ Early pressure into right foot
✅ Arms stretched away in backswing
✅ Early hip shift left
✅ Loaded right wrist late into impact

Beautifully simple to watch and endlessly complex to do!

If you could have one object from any museum in the world, which one would you choose?

At 24, Michelangelo carved the Pietà from a single block of marble.

Look at the weight of Christ's body, the folds of Mary's clothing, and the quiet expression on her face.

More than 500 years later, the question remains: how could someone so young understand both stone and human sorrow so profoundly?

Thousands of tiny brushstrokes went into this autumn path, painted by the Danish artist Hans Andersen Brendekilde in 1902. The image below is in high definition, so zoom in and look at the leaves one by one...

The path runs through a wood at the height of autumn, the trees turning gold and orange and red, and the ground so thickly covered in fallen leaves that you can almost hear them under your feet. A woman sits alone on a bench at the side of the path, while two figures walk away into the distance, and the whole scene glows with that soft, low light you only get on a clear afternoon at this time of year.

The man who painted it was born Hans Andersen in 1857, into a poor family on the island of Funen, and as a boy he did chores on a farm. When he became a painter, there was another young artist working on the same kinds of subjects, also called Andersen, and people kept confusing them. So in 1884 the two friends solved the problem together: each took the name of the village he came from. Hans Andersen became Brendekilde, and his friend became L.A. Ring, one of the greatest Danish painters of his time.

For much of his career, Brendekilde painted the harsh lives of Danish farmworkers, but as he grew older he turned more and more to the beauty of the countryside. This is one of those paintings: a quiet path, a bench, and the kind of autumn day that makes you want to sit down for a while and watch the leaves fall...

Marc Andreessen reveals why housing, health care, and education keep getting more expensive while everything else gets cheaper

"There's basically three components to the American dream. A house near great job opportunities, great health care for you and your family, and sending your kids to good schools"

"If you disaggregate the economy over the last 25 years, everything that technology touches basically collapses in price. Television sets, computer games, anything with electronics in it. But if you chart housing, education, and health care, the prices of those things are skyrocketing"

"The government restricts supply, zoning laws and university certifications. And then the government responds to the political pressure caused by the rising prices by subsidizing demand. And of course, if you subsidize demand and a fixed supply, you get skyrocketing prices"

Two of the most persistent misconceptions about socialism are that it favors the poor and that it favors the working class.

Socialism favors the political class, which decides who receives favors and who pays for them. That may mean subsidizing the poor, rewarding the rich, or protecting politically favored businesses in the name of prosperity.

Capitalism rewards productive work by allowing individuals to own what they produce and exchange it voluntarily. Socialism subordinates that work to political objectives, using producers and their earnings to fulfill promises politicians make to others.
