We started Jackal five years ago with a simple belief: people should own their data. We went all in on that.
We built a lot.
Ten apps. Drive. Pin. Vault. Radiant. Name Service. Outposts on Archway and Base. Beacon. Farcaster miniapps. Stargaze plugins. Respawn.
Five versions of the chain.
A ton of open source tooling. Two versions of S3 tooling. Video streaming. Peer-to-peer file transfer. IPFS integrations. An Optimism demo using Jackal as a data availability layer.
We are proud of that work.
But we failed to build something people wanted at venture scale.
The crypto ecosystem as a whole has consolidated into a few successful use cases. All in fintech. Stablecoins. Prediction markets. Perps. Lending. Etc. The market for everything else has not developed into something large enough to support a real team without relying on token speculation. We believed we could change that with Jackal. We didn’t.
From the beginning our goal was to build real products, real usage, and a sustainable revenue stream for the protocol selling storage. We failed to make that happen after five years.
Marston and I are moving on. Back into the idea maze. We don’t know what’s next for us.
What this means for Jackal is straightforward.
- The chain will remain live.
- It will run in maintenance mode.
- We can’t commit to new protocol development.
We still believe in the idea of sovereign data. That has not changed.
We are excited about what teams like @SigeaOfficial are doing, and we hope they succeed. We will help where we can on the Jackal side. The chain, the apps, and the tooling are open source. If others want to build, we are happy to help with code reviews and questions.
We spent years on this. We pushed hard. We took big swings.
We didn’t make it work.
That’s on us.
Thank you to the community, the team, and partners that supported and worked with us over the years.

@Cosmos_Airdrops@Jackal_Protocol The writing has been on the wall that the only two desired use cases of crypto are stable coins and gambling.
Either you are company that profits of stable coin issuance, or you are attracting gamblers to a gambling app.
There is nothing else.
You spend the morning defending the Pope, then you see him reverentially visiting a mosque.🤦♂️
The only time a bishop should visit a mosque is to exorcise it and pray deliverance over it before claiming it for Christ.
Enough with the interfaith dialogue, it looks like pluralism.
@Cryptocito Makes no sense. If revenue exceeded costs dramatically there is 0 reason for them to ask to get bought out. They are clearly collapsing and looking for a bailout.

MAGA: Trump Playing 5D Chess! Art Of The Deal!!
An American president threatening the death of an ancient civilization is in some ways the end of the 250-year moral experiment of a constitutional republic that the framers saw as a model for all mankind.
Americans are suffering. It is way too expensive just to live for most families. Our cities aren’t safe. Our country is being transformed every day by foreign migration. Our elections aren’t secure. The SAVE act was not passed and won’t be passed. It’s time to end this war in Iran and focus on our country, our people, our future. Far too much of Trump’s second term has been spent on foreign adventures. It has to end. Turn the attention back home.
Christians who loudly condemned the assault on innocent life until Trump began to support abortion pills and IVF, what will it take for you finally to put your principles over politics, if not a threat that a "civilization will die tonight”? Just how seared are your consciences?
The President's threat against Iran is genocidal, even by the strictest definition. It may be bluster, but that does not change our obligation. To work, a threat must be credible, and we must act accordingly.
We attacked Iran. Any order to escalate our attack with nuclear weapons would clearly be immoral, and must therefore be rejected by every person in the chain of command. Anyone who carried such an order forward would become immediately complicit. That is the lesson of history, and those who fail it will be judged harshly by it--and by God.
We can't have a Commander in Chief who threatens civilians, idly or in earnest. The President must be removed from office, for the good of the Republic, and the world.
These are war crimes. Dear U.S. Catholic bishops, politicians, and opinion makers, if you all spoke out loudly en masse, you might just possibly deter the president from committing this evil against the Iranian people and staining the honor of our country. Please do your duty! @USCCB
