@CaralhoPhilly@EoinHiggins_ The segment already features multiple clips of White House officials commenting on it, officials were already offered the chance to comment, and there's no standard or principle that suggests it's necessary for a complete story either in general or in this specific context.
@ombudsman4truth@grynbaum You falsely claimed they were "dangerous cartel members", and SCOTUS already ruled 9-0 that these CECOT deportations are violating due process
@gadboit@ArgonGruber@davidbessis Exactly. If they're all the complaint against GEB amounts to it's a huge nothingburger over an offhand phrasing that's not even essential to any particular argument. There are lots of egregious misuses of Godels proof, but none in GEB
Strong disagree here. GEB does *feel like* a phenomenal "big idea book", but at the core it is utterly stupid and will set you back 20 years in your understanding of mathematics and logic.
I read it at 17 and loved it, and I do recommend it for this specific usage: as a cool pop math "toy book" for young geeks. But it should come with a public health advisory: the book is fun, well-written, engaging, it is highly stimulating and will teach you a lot of interesting things *BUT* its philosophical premises are idiotic and the author has no clue what he is talking about.
I do think having read the book *impaired* my understanding of mathematics and slowed my career.
@davidbessis@stanislavfort You keep saying "no clue how it truly functions" but his explanation of Gödels proof is accurate, and outside of that it's unclear what exactly you are alleging. I didn't take him to be making any controversial statements about the nature of math. 🤷♂️
@davidbessis@AndrewCMyers That musing on paradox doesn't seem to be saying much but also seems pretty orthogonal to the main ideas in the book. What would give me pause is if the key ideas about self reference were mistaken in some fundamental way or if it misrepresented Gödel or something
@jrobertsbsbl I thought Nathaniel Lowe was actually pretty good for the Sox down the stretch. He slashed .351/.458/.432 in his final 48 PA to end the year.
Started hot, ended hot, with a slump in the middle
@longlive_jahh@JayDeads@DudespostingWs Even that's conceding too much because I think this is good technique *and* genuinely satisfying.
Color isn't necessarily better than black and white, but it has a huge advantage due to its richer expressive range.
@JayDeads@JimC453@DudespostingWs There absolutely is such a thing as technical sophistication not cashing out as an enjoyable listening experience. But I found this clip deeply satisfying, because it's loaded with good taste textural flourishes. It's the difference between a croissant and wonder bread.
@thepine64 website says refurbished pinephone pro is already out of stock! Is that right? I'd been checking the store since I knew the refurbs were going to be listed. If they're truly out of stock, it seems like they sold out extremely fast
@TimONeill007 Bluesky is centralized just like Twitter. (It intends not to be but it is). Mastodon is decentralized, that's why it's hyped.
I hope you make both, and I can follow you on masto if and when you make the leap
