Congratulations to Melat Kiros on her extraordinary victory in Colorado over a 30-year incumbent House member.
The tide is turning.
Americans are tired of status quo politics.
They want representatives in Congress who will stand up to oligarchy and fight for working families.
Tigray faces a crisis on two fronts. The first, a federal siege, with budget withheld, fuel and aid cut off, and the region encircled. At the same time, Tigray has a leadership reviving an expired mandate instead of broadening representation.

Ethiopia, Africa’s second-most populous nation, stands deeply divided, facing violent ethnic conflicts, restrictions on free speech and crackdowns on dissent.
As the country heads toward a national election, the leader once celebrated as a healer is now viewed by critics as the main driver of these schisms. https://t.co/spNIFvefxi
Tigray’s Children Are Denied School Again- Call for Action
What is happening in Tigray today is intolerable and it must be called out with absolute moral clarity.
After three years of war (2020-22) that already interrupted every child’s education, the Ethiopian government is once again choking Tigray’s school system and pushing an entire generation further into darkness.
Across Tigray, members of the education community held protests to sound the alarm: severe budget restrictions are crippling schools, starving teachers, and denying children their basic right to learn. Their message is painfully clear:
“Teachers shall not teach us while starving.”
And they are right.
No education system can function when:
- Civil servants go months without pay
- Banks remain closed or restricted, blocking families from accessing their own money
- Businesses and commodities are strangled at checkpoints, preventing school supplies and daily essentials from reaching communities
- Fuel is restricted, making school transport, power, and basic logistics impossible
These are not administrative inconveniences. They are deliberate policy choices, choices that punish children, parents, and educators who have already endured a genocide, a complete blackout, and years of trauma.
A government that denies children their right to education is not protecting stability; it is manufacturing future instability, poverty, and despair.
Tigray’s children have already lost more than three years of schooling during the 2020–22 war. To disrupt their learning again, through economic blockades, salary suspensions, and financial strangulation, is an assault on their future and a clear violation of their human rights.
Education is not a privilege to be weaponized.
It is a right, non‑negotiable, universal, and protected under international law.
The world cannot remain silent while Tigray’s children are pushed out of the classroom once again. Their teachers cannot teach while starving. Their parents cannot support them under economic suffocation. And their communities cannot rebuild without a functioning education system.
Tigray’s children deserve better. They deserve dignity, stability, and a future, not another man‑made barrier standing between them and a classroom.

Bombing a hospital or a school isn't a "miscalculation."
Killing a paramedic isn't "collateral damage."
Starving civilians isn't "negotiating tactic."
These are war crimes. Full stop.
Call it what it is.

News: “#Ethiopia inches ever closer to war” – The Economist
Ethiopia is edging closer to another devastating conflict as renewed tensions in the #Tigray region raise fears of a wider regional conflagration, The Economist magazine reported in its this week edition.
According to the report, residents of Tigray have over the past year endured repeated periods of anxiety marked by cash shortages, empty market shelves, soaring prices, and food hoarding—each episode reviving memories of the 2020–2022 war.
The Economist warned that the risk of renewed violence remains high. In a parliamentary address on 3 February, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed accused the #TPLF of being “traitors” intent on “dismantling Ethiopia.”
A TPLF official cited by the magazine said the Ethiopian National Defense Force was “mobilising in full force,” warning that another war could be catastrophic if political restraint fails.
Tensions spiked again when TPLF-linked forces crossed the #Tekeze River into #Tselemti last week. While officials said the move was intended to protest the treatment of returning civilians, some analysts cited by The Economist believe it may also have been aimed at testing federal defenses or securing strategic positions.
The African Union publicly offered to mediate on 30 January, but Ethiopia privately rejected the proposal, telling the #AU to refrain from intervening in its internal affairs, according to sources cited by The Economist.

News: Ethiopian Airlines suspends flights to Tigray airports
Mekelle – Ethiopian Airlines has suspended flights scheduled for today to airports in Tigray, including #Mekelle, #Axum, #Shire, and #Humera, according to information obtained by Addis Standard.
An Addis Standard reporter on the ground in Mekelle confirmed airport staff were informed to take a break for the day. However, Ethiopian Airlines’ ticket office in Mekelle continued providing services, excluding flights scheduled for today.
“The system is working. We are giving services. We sell tickets scheduled from tomorrow onwards. We reschedule flights and provide other services,” one ticket office staff member told Addis Standard. “But none of us know why flights were suspended today.”
Passengers who had booked flights for today received text messages notifying them of the cancellation. One message sent to customers read:
“Your flight ET0102 from ADD on 29 Jan 2026, at 08:10 AM has been cancelled due to unplanned circumstances….

News: Flight suspensions linked to clashes between federal, Tigrayan forces in #Tigray: AFP
Clashes between federal and Tigrayan forces have erupted in Ethiopia's northern Tigray region, prompting the suspension of flights, security and diplomatic sources told AFP on Thursday.
The renewed tensions risk a return to conflict in the volatile region, which three years ago emerged from a brutal war between Ethiopian forces and the Tigray People's Liberation Front (#TPLF) that the African Union says killed at least 600,000 people.
Hostilities broke out in recent days in #Tsemlet, #western_Tigray, an area claimed by forces from the neighbouring Amhara region who have refused to withdraw despite a peace agreement signed in Pretoria at the end of 2022 requiring them to do so.
"The situation appears to be deteriorating," the security source said. A diplomatic source seeking anonymity told AFP the Tigray forces are facing "the ENDF (Ethiopian army) alongside Amhara militias."
"The clashes were confirmed in recent days, but today we don't know the situation," the source added. A local source, speaking on condition of anonymity, also confirmed the clashes, while the federal army and members of TPLF are yet to respond inquiries by AFP.
Two Ethiopian Airlines officials, also speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP that flights to Tigray, operated by the state-owned carrier, had been suspended for "operational reasons," without providing further details.
The carrier -- the region's only airline -- did not immediately respond to inquiries from AFP. The suspension is the first since the 2022 peace agreement that ended the war, which had seen air links, telecommunications, and banking services completely shut down.
A journalist in the Tigrayan capital #Mekele told AFP "there is increasing anxiety", but said they do not know the "intensity of fighting so far". For several months tension has been brewing in northern Ethiopia as Amhara and Eritrean forces remain present in violation of the peace deal.
Earlier today Addis Standard reported that Ethiopian Airlines has suspended flights scheduled for today to airports in Tigray, including Mekelle, Axum, Shire, and Humera, according to information obtained by Addis Standard.
As expected, the genocidal regime is blocking the citizen-led humanitarian efforts to save the lives of Tigrayan IDPs who are facing famine engineered by the same regime. It's confiscating funds/goods.
