This dictator has persecuted Christians since 2018 and is now claiming victory in what it calls an election in order to continue its project of killing Christians, burning churches, sponsoring ethnic conflicts, and dragging the country backward.
HRF condemns Ethiopia’s sham June 1 general elections, which crowned dictator Abiy Ahmed and his Prosperity Party with a landslide victory following an electoral process void of genuine democratic competition and discredited by opposition boycotts, political repression, the exclusion of significant parts of the electorate, and a campaigning overwhelmingly skewed in favor of the incumbent.

According to local reports, @AbiyAhmedAli regime forces carried out an extensive aerial bombardment campaign across East Wollega Zone in Oromia Region on June 23, targeting areas including Ali village in Andode Dicha Kebele of Gida Ayana Woreda, Waja, and Gulma. The attacks reportedly involved fighter jets, military helicopters, and drones and allegedly targeted civilian-populated areas.
Sources from the area reported that the Ali locality alone was subjected to more than 40 separate rounds of jet, helicopter, and drone strikes throughout the day. The strikes came amid reports that regime forces suffered major battlefield losses in recent clashes with Fano forces, with local sources claiming that more than 306 ENDF soldiers were killed during fighting across East Wollega and neighboring areas. Residents described the aerial campaign as a retaliatory operation following those military setbacks.
Local reports further indicated that civilian flights at Nekemte Airport were suspended throughout the day, while the airport was reportedly used exclusively by military aircraft supporting the operation. Fighter jets operating from the airport conducted repeated sorties against targets in the affected areas.
Numerous civilians were killed and wounded in Ali village, although the exact number of casualties remains unknown due to telecommunications disruptions across the area. Sources also alleged that wounded civilians were prevented from reaching medical treatment in Anger Gutin town after roads were reportedly blocked by ENDF forces and Geda Commandos.
Additional reports indicate that military helicopters dropped explosives in the Waja area, while fighter jets and drones conducted strikes in Gulma, where farmers working in their fields were reportedly among the victims. Extensive drone surveillance activity was also reported over Tulugana town and neighboring areas of Horo Guduru Wollega Zone. The full humanitarian impact of the attacks remains unclear as communication networks remain disrupted throughout much of the affected region.
