He now faces life in prison.

Let me get this straight: Donald Trump is sucking up to Kim Jong Un, a brutal dictator who runs one of the world’s most repressive regimes, holds tens of thousands of political prisoners, and has supplied Putin with millions of artillery shells, ballistic missiles, and thousands of troops for his war against Ukraine while the president has essentially declared economic war on Canada, one of America’s closest friends and allies.

Canada fought beside us in two world wars, Korea, and Afghanistan; sheltered Americans after 9/11; and helps defend our continent every day through NORAD. Our economies are profoundly intertwined, with nearly $3.5 billion in trade crossing our border every day, supporting millions of jobs and deeply integrated supply chains. And beyond all that, Canadians and Americans are bound together by generations of family, friendship, travel, education, sports, music, movies, books, and a vast shared culture.

This is nuts.

How did America’s friends become our enemies and our enemies become our friends?

Every American should reach out to your elected representatives demanding change and reach out to your Canadian friends to express friendship.

Mark, I appreciate this sentiment, and criticizing Netanyahu or any Israeli policy is obviously not antisemitic. Israel is far from perfect and should be criticized when criticism is warranted.

But there is another form of antisemitism: holding the world’s only Jewish state to a standard applied to no other country.

Where is the comparable sustained outrage over Christians being massacred, kidnapped, and driven from their communities in Nigeria? Over the countless other atrocities and humanitarian catastrophes around the world?

Israel, meanwhile, is a tiny country fighting enemies that have armed and organized themselves around its destruction. Hamas’s founding charter explicitly called for Israel’s destruction, and October 7 demonstrated that this threat is not theoretical.

Criticize Israel. Criticize Netanyahu. Defend Palestinian civilians. I do all three. But apply the same moral standards everywhere. Singling out the Jewish state for unique condemnation while treating vastly worse atrocities elsewhere as peripheral is precisely where legitimate criticism becomes discriminatory.

If you’re a Democratic voter deeply alarmed by the state of our country and where President Trump is taking us, you should feel enormous urgency to publicly condemn the DSA.

The problem isn’t every DSA aspiration. Universal healthcare, for example, is a legitimate policy goal. The problem is that many stated DSA positions—including abolishing police and prisons and dismantling core elements of our constitutional order—are deeply radical, threatening, and unacceptable to most American voters.

Failing to draw a bright line between the Democratic Party and the DSA will make it far harder for Democrats to win the elections we desperately need to win.

We are already seeing the consequences in Florida, where Angie Nixon has joined the DSA and will certainly lose her Senate race because Republicans will hold her accountable for the DSA platform, as they should.

Those of us Democrats who love our country and are deeply concerned about its direction must aggressively counter the DSA and demand that Democratic leaders unequivocally condemn its bigotry, anti-Americanism, and extremism.

Democrats cannot support radical candidates like Abdul El-Sayed and Darializa Avila Chevalier without expecting to be held collectively accountable for their positions.

If we want to win the support of the majority of American voters who are deeply uncomfortable with the DSA’s dangerous socialist radicalism, we must clearly distance ourselves from these candidates and state loud and clear: that is not us.

Angie Nixon said on CNN last night that she joined the DSA even though she disagrees with much of its platform. That makes her decision to join all the more troubling.

If Nixon rejects the DSA platform, she should quit the DSA. If she chooses to remain a member, she should expect to be held accountable for the anti-American bigotry that platform embraces.

I desperately want Democrats to win one or both houses of Congress in November so we can stand more effectively against the Trump administration’s rampant corruption and attacks on democratic norms and institutions.

But we will not win if voters come to see the Democratic Party as the party of the DSA.

The center-left and independent voters Democrats whose support need will never trust DSA extremists who openly disparage America and advocate dismantling core democratic institutions.

There’s an irony here: Trump and the DSA are both attacking democratic norms from opposite extremes.

But for Democrats, the strategic choice is clear. We can either tether ourselves to the DSA radicals and lose, or unequivocally break with the DSA and present ourselves as patriotic, common-sense problem solvers fighting to make life better for everyone so we can win.

The most extreme expression of unrepentant antisemitism in American politics is Dan Bilzerian, who has drawn far less public opprobrium than he deserves.

Discarding the usual code words such as “Zionists,” Bilzerian scapegoats Jews by name, openly declaring: “It is not red against blue. It is us against Jew.”

When he is not trafficking in Holocaust denial, he releases AI-generated campaign videos suggesting that our view of Hitler—whom he whitewashes as an “Austrian painter”—should be “revisited.”

What distinguishes Dan Bilzerian from others who share his pathological preoccupation with the Jewish people and the Jewish state? His conspiratorial Jew-hatred is unfiltered by euphemism. He makes no attempt to hide it. He flaunts it. For he is proud of it.

The rest of us should be ashamed.

7 Jews from France were surrounded by a crowd at the Barcelona port and subjected to antisemitic chants, spitting, and humiliation for about 40 minutes.

A woman displaying Free Palestine symbols shouted at them, and other people later joined her.

Jimmy Zagron, one of the Jews who was attacked, said that at first the chants were "Free Palestine." Later the chants became more antisemitic, such as "baby killers," "Jews are not welcome here," "Zionists are not welcome here,” and "Death to Israel.”

"There was an enormous crowd of people around us," he said.

They tried to clarify that they were French, not Israeli, but it made no difference.

The attack comes after another similar attack in which a Jewish group was chased in Barcelona.
