While comparing to OECD, we forget where we are coming from.

Even 30 years ago - very few people owned cars or two wheelers. People would eat out only occasionally - maybe 2-3 times a year.

We can not wish away poverty but the steady growth is visible.

If the addressable market becomes 10% from 5%, that itself is a huge economic driver.

Feelings are not a substitute for data. Here is the back calculation.

Luxury cars are owned by about 3 lakh households, which is 0.1% of households.

Mid to high segment cars are owned by only about 1% of households.

If you include all kinds of cars, including hatchbacks, only 7% of Indian households own a car.

About 4% of the population owns a credit card. Only about 1% owns a premium credit card.

Private banking customers are just 0.1% of total bank customers in India.

If you include all kinds of foreign travel, the share of unique travellers still does not cross 2% of the population.

Food delivery apps are used regularly by only 4% of Indian households.

The number of unique air travellers does not exceed 4% of the country’s population.

Five star hotels in India are used by only about 0.5% of the population.

Only about 1.5% of the country’s population has more than Rs 10 lakh in demat accounts and mutual fund folios combined.

Fine dining where an average bill is more than Rs. 4000 is limited to about 2% of households.

The addressable market for anything premium is about 1.5 crore households, the top 5% of the country.

If India really has lots and lots of wealthy people, show where they are and what they are doing with their money.

Look at who owns luxury cars, who flies, who holds a premium credit card, who has serious money in shares and mutual funds, and who stays in five star hotels. Those lists are short.

What you see in a few rich pockets of big cities is a small top layer, not a large rich country.

Instead I go with " Real Feel" GDP growth.

Cities & villages look GDP of a $ 100 billion country not 4 trln.

Having grown up among Hindus, and having my closest friends(who are family), I have not had one single interaction in my life, where they have mentioned about Manusmriti or their homes had the book of Manusmriti on their book shelves or even in their Mandirs.

I don't know any conversation in my life till know, whether political, whether ideological, whether religious, where my Hindu friend, acquaintance or opponent, has brought up any verse from the Manusmriti.

In my online debates, with thousands, no Hindu has even remotely mentioned about the Manusmriti. My leftist Hindu friends have never brought it up, their strong difference with me continues to be our differing views on our Prime Minister,Mr Narendra Modi.

My right wing friends, have not in any debate mentioned the words Manusmriti. Even hardline right wing followers have never left a reply under my tweets, mentioning Manusmriti.

My everyday life in Pune since childhood is lived amongst a Hindu Majority and in all my experiences, there is no symbology I have seen in public spaces, where there is any imprint of verses from the Manusmriti.

My closest Hindu friend is an Atheist and co-incidentally, his name is Rahul too. My son is surprised that how come Rahul Chachu is an Atheist and still be a Hindu and not face any backlash from his community, rather it is treated as a matter of choice.

I told him, that is the beauty of the faith he is born to, he can be a Hindu, regardless of his views on his faith, a privilege which Abrahamic children of India will never have.

He can be a Hindu and be among those millions and millions of Hindus, who have never even heard about the Manusmriti and are reminded every now and then of it, by Leftist Hindus and now by the opposition leader of India, Mr Rahul Gandhi.

A believer like Narendra Modi is a Hindu and Rahul Gandhi who attacks the Manusmriti, he too, is seen as a Hindu by the 1 Billion Hindus of India.

Three Alleged Poachers Shot Dead; Protests Rock Chamarajanagar, Enquiry Ordered

Chamarajanagar, Karnataka

Tensions gripped Hanur taluk on Saturday after three alleged #poachers were shot dead by Forest Department personnel inside the Cauvery #Wildlife Sanctuary early in the morning. The incident has triggered massive protests, with locals alleging a fake encounter.

The deceased have been identified as Antoniswamy, Peter and Kumar, all residents of Thomiyar Palya village in Hanur taluk.

According to #Forest Department sources, the shootout occurred in the Holedatti forest area within the Shagya Beat of the sanctuary. Acting on intelligence about illegal hunting and meat processing, patrolling guards confronted the suspects. Officials claim the men opened fire, prompting forest personnel to retaliate in self-defense, killing all three on the spot, while one suspect managed to escape. Senior officials later inspected the site and a formal case has been registered. The department has announced a detailed investigation, though specifics about seized weapons or meat have not yet been disclosed.

By Saturday afternoon, enraged villagers staged a massive protest outside the Hanur forest office and police station, alleging that Forest Department officials carried out a fake encounter. The standoff escalated when protesters attempted to block the minister’s convoy by lying down in front of vehicles. District in-charge Minister C. Puttarangashetty and senior officials tried to pacify the crowd but faced fierce resistance.Protesters demanded immediate action against the officials involved, ₹2 crore compensation for each family, and government jobs for the children of the deceased.

The government has announced an enquiry to be conducted by the District Collector.Meanwhile, #Chamarajanagar police have deployed additional forces across Hanur taluk to maintain law and order and prevent further escalation.
