गले में चप्पल-जूतों की माला पहने ये बांग्लादेश के पूर्व मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त के. एम. नुरूल हुदा हैं।
२०१४, २०१८ और २०२४ के चुनावों में भारी गड़बड़ी और वोट चोरी कर शेख हसीना को तीन बार प्रधानमंत्री बनाने वाले इस ‘विलन’ पर बांग्लादेश की जनता का प्रचंड रोष था। २०१८ का कुख्यात “आधी रात का मतदान” चुनाव इन्हीं के कार्यकाल में हुआ था।
अगस्त २०२४ में बांग्लादेश में जनता का विद्रोह हुआ। उसके बाद जून २०२५ में गुस्साई भीड़ ने नुरूल हुदा को घर से लुंगी में ही घसीटते हुए बाहर निकाला। गले में खड़ाऊं की माला पहनाई, चप्पलों से पीटा, अंडे फेंके। पुलिस ने अपनी हेलमेट और बॉडी आर्मर देकर मुश्किल से उनकी जान बचाई।
उसी दिन बीएनपी ने २०१४, २०१८ और २०२४ के चुनाव जनता की मर्जी के बिना कराने का आरोप लगाकर शेख हसीना, तीन पूर्व मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्तों और अन्य अधिकारियों पर मुकदमा दर्ज किया। नुरूल हुदा पुलिस हिरासत में चले गए। बाद में उन्होंने अदालत में कबूल किया कि २०१८ का चुनाव दबाव में फर्जी हुआ था।
तब से ये पूर्व मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त बांग्लादेश की जेल में बंद हैं। शेख हसीना भारत भाग आईं, इसलिए उनकी जान बच गई।
चुनाव आयोग लोकतंत्र का पहरेदार है। जब वह पक्षपाती या दबाव में चला जाता है, तो जनता का गुस्सा कैसे फूटता है — ये उसका जीवंत उदाहरण

Earlier this month, I searched for my name in the SIR records. It was not there. Instead, I found it on the ASDD list: absent, shifted, dead or duplicate.

I am none of those things. I live at the same permanent address. I have a passport issued at that address. Yet I am now required to file Form 6 and ask to be entered again as a voter.

This is not a complaint about one name in one constituency. Across India, people are discovering that they have become a problem for the electoral system they were once part of.

They must find old records, locate parents’ names in rolls prepared decades ago, obtain documents, visit offices and wait for decisions. This begs the question, once the state machinery has put a person on the roll, why does that person have to prove his existence all over again?

VIDEO | TMC MP Mahua Moitra says, "I have come today to the Parliament Street Police Station to file a complaint against Gyanesh Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner of India, who has indulged in criminal conduct. What is the criminal conduct? The Election Commission is made up of three Election Commissioners to maintain checks and balances. Majority decisions prevail. It has now been proven by the Indian Express investigative report yesterday that two of the three Election Commissioners, namely Mr Joshi and Mr Sandhu, dissented from Mr Gyanesh Kumar's actions on 14 occasions in the last 10 months, and sometimes as many as four times in a single day. Very important things, such as the centralisation of the IT software, were left entirely in the hands of DG IT Seema Khanna, who was using this software to bypass local, on-ground officials. What is the rule? The rule is that in every Assembly constituency and at every booth, the local official, the ERO and the BLO, are in charge of the voter roll. What we find is that Seema Khanna and Gyanesh Kumar, by using the ECI software illegally and criminally, manipulated the voter rolls, bypassed these local officials and did not give them access to the system."

She adds, "Secondly, in terms of Form 6, Form 6 allows a person to register as a new voter. How does a new voter get enrolled by filling out Form 6? What Gyanesh Kumar did illegally was insert a new question into Form 6, which is: Are you or any of your parents or grandparents linked to the SIR, yes or no? Mr Sandhu and Mr Joshi dissented and said that only by amending the rules could you do this; you cannot simply add a question. Nobody could answer. The CEO of West Bengal could not answer, and the Chief Election Commissioner could not answer, and lakhs and crores of new voters were left out. Today, all over India, 13 crore voters have been deleted. What will happen to their children? What will happen to their children when they turn 18? They cannot get on the rolls either. So this is criminal conduct, and they cannot hide behind Section 16 of the CEC and EC Act of 2023."
