But it begs the question of how some hospitals will be able to function without wall-to-wall resident coverage.

The ACGME has been slowly but surely moving toward standards that will reduce hospitals’ ability to rely on residents as cheap labor (duty hours, pt caps, ⬆️ electives, etc).

Last week, Tennessee passed legislation to allow international medical graduates to obtain licensure and practice independently *without* completing a U.S. residency program.
