44 UK CONSTRUCTION FIRMS RAN ILLEGAL SPY DATABASE WITH MET POLICE AND BLACKLISTED 3,213 WORKERS

In 2009 investigators raided a building in the Midlands and found 3,213 names. All construction workers. All secretly blacklisted by 44 of the UK's biggest building firms including Costain, Sir Robert McAlpine, and Skanska.

Dave Smith @DaveBlacklist was one of them.

Dave was a safety rep in the 1990s. He reported asbestos. He flagged a near-fatal accident.

Carillion responded by building a secret 36-page file on him. His home address. His car. His family. Passed quietly to a private blacklist database. Companies paid £2.20 per name check.

Dave spent years unemployed with no idea why. Eventually left construction and retrained as a teacher.
The Met Police later admitted their undercover officers fed information into the same blacklist.

The government knew in 2007 and did nothing. Blacklisting was not even illegal until 2010.

Carillion admitted everything at tribunal. Dave still lost because agency workers were not protected by law.

Carillion then apologised publicly. And sent Dave a bill for £3,500..

44 companies caught. 14 enforcement notices issued. The rest walked.

‘Inadequate measures’: Green Party MP Ellie Chowns pressed Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper why she did nothing to prevent an Israeli property event from taking place in London – one that included selling developments on illegal settlements in the West Bank.

Rights groups such as Amnesty International and Palestine Solidarity Campaign had warned the government about the event in the weeks leading up to it.

I try to avoid UK politics, but the situation in the UK right now is insane.

- Using the guise of 'child protection' to enforce mandatory KYC across all social apps (they already enforced this for adult sites)

- Mandating client side scanning of user content (i.e. bypasses VPNs, E2E encryption

Setting up all the infrastructure for full-on surveillance. Just takes one rogue government to use this for nefarious means

- Enforced such draconian rules for crypto trading that most firms exited the market entirely. The prohibited list on new deals now generally has North Korea, Russia, Iran and the UK at the top

For the privilege of trading and investing with one hand tied behind your back, tax burden is at a record high (since records began in 1948), capital gains tax recently increased to 24%, and the main Labour challenger Andy Burnham wants to increase this to match income tax, plus a wealth tax

But at least public infra is better as a result, right? Police are still chronically underfunded, to the point where they no longer deal with petty crimes such as shoplifting. You have guys walking into a store, stealing stuff, and walking out, because they know there's no repercussions.

The NHS remains great for the majority tbh, so don't want to bash it too much, but for someone who is willing to pay for private treatment, you still find yourself stuck having to go through the system (and waiting weeks/months as a result)

It doesn't look like there's any improvement on the horizon, and amongst my circle of friends, I've never seen such pessimism for the future. Situation really is grim.

An Israeli firm has interfered in elections in Scotland, New York, France, Angola and Togo, using large numbers of fake social media accounts to target politicians who have criticised Israel’s genocide in Gaza, French authorities have found.

France’s disinformation watchdog, Viginum, said a private, Israel-based company named BlackCore had coordinated hundreds of accounts to post negative comments about Scottish first minister John Swinney in the run-up to the Scottish parliament elections in May.

Swinney is one of the few UK politicians to have described Israel’s mass killings in Gaza as a genocide, saying last year that “it can’t be disputed”. He also led a ban on arms companies receiving financial aid if they supply Israel's military.

Viginum said Swinney, the ruling Scottish National Party (SNP) and the devolved government in Edinburgh were targeted between 6 January and 8 May, with BlackCore using at least 256 coordinated accounts to post around 1,400 comments.

Swinney was targeted 652 times, the SNP 338 and the Scottish government 112.

An SNP spokesperson said: “Over the course of the Scottish election campaign, the SNP observed that posts across our social media platforms were subject to an unprecedented level of negative reactions and comments from accounts which appeared to be AI-generated bots.”

“Any interference in our democratic process must be thoroughly investigated,” they added.

Ross Greer, co-leader of the Scottish Greens, called on foreign secretary Yvette Cooper to summon the Israeli ambassador over the scandal. “Or will she continue Labour's tradition of letting them [Israel] away with absolutely anything?” he wrote on X.

BlackCore has described itself as “an elite influence, cyber and technology company built for the modern era of information warfare” that has worked with governments and political campaigns on “cutting-edge strategies, advanced tools and robust security to shape narratives”.

Viginum chief Marc-Antoine Brillant said last week that BlackCore had meddled in French municipal elections but its activities were “not limited” to France.

Brillant did not say who had been targeted in last year’s New York City mayoral election, but winner Zohran Mamdani has repeatedly called Israel’s actions in Gaza a genocide. Before his election, Mamdani said he would enforce an international arrest warrant against Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu were he to travel to New York.
