Big day and awesome rolleout! Love the callback to mythology and female guides. 👏 @JessicaShazzam, can't wait to see what you do next!

Fireside Chat #3 covering The Business of Women’s Sports Summit that @abrabant26 and I attended last week in NYC, which was amazing and eye opening at the same time.
1: The most eye opening was that 6% of data used in sports science is women's data vs 94% of it is men's…and historically, the solution in women's sports has been to use “data from small men as a proxy for women”...so there’s that.
2: Kim Stone, CEO of @WashSpirit is working to solve for #1 above via their Performance Center backed by legendary Michelle Kang which is super smart because, well, the quality of your data dictates the quality of your AI system’s output…and therefore, this one has a competitive advantage (winning more games) written all over it.
3: @JessicaShazzam coming from the revenue side to become CEO and having been a part of @weareangelcity from Day 0 is such a compelling storyline as they build out the @wnbagoldenstate franchise. No doubt she’s going to build the business by recruiting people that do things the right way and play the long game aka the only way to play the game.
4: @KeiaClarke coming from the Marketing side to become CEO of @nyliberty is something that is fascinating because the deep commitment to customer centricity makes for a super power both in the way a CEO runs the business and the type of talent Keia can recruit. Super. Power. For sure.
5: I loved the way @UCLAWBB@CoachCoriClose talked about how NIL has major benefits including enabling her players to develop entrepreneurial skills earlier in their careers but Coach Close having to find 25 hours per week is something else…thinking @gemini_sports could most definitely help bring the 25 down to 10 or so hours per week….just sayin’. ;)
6: Mental strength, training and the associated data sets are beyond interesting to me. This data set captured my imagination as a kid with my favorite players who had “it” but now you can measure, cultivate etc "it"…talking with emerging superstar Kiki Rice about this was beyond fascinating. Can’t wait for @espn "Full Court Press" presented by @StateFarm featuring Kiki, @CaitlinClark22 and @Kamillascsilva on May 11th.
Also, there might have been a reference in Fireside Chat #3 about @NHL too because “if / when” the @Canes (original Hartford Whalers) take care of the @NYIslanders tonight, up next is @NYRangers …we’re coming for you Wade Minter!! ;) 🏆 🏆 🏆
Video was :20 minutes so we'll break it into two :10 minute videos.
Video 1 of 2 below. Hope you enjoy!

Years ago I heard @heelslaxcoach on @JulieFoudy ‘s Laughter Permitted that “integrity is closing the gap between what you say and what you do.” It stuck with me and guides how I live and work. Important stuff!
before starting a company i fully did not appreciate how rare it is for people to follow through on what they say they’re going to do
(employees, investors, advisors, contractors, service providers, biz partners…)
when you find someone good, hang on for dear life
Mature the way we talk about sports and coverage —> increasing coverage for women’s sports. Let’s go!
Awesome work by Amy Johnson of @Wasserman at @SloanSportsConf
2) The AVP method for handling emotional conversations. Acknowledge, validate, and then permit the other person. I can sometimes be quick to respond and will definitely be creating a reminder of AVP both in my personal and professional relationships. 3/4
The Arsenal fan in me is sad, but this is very exciting for Bay FC and the NWSL. Especially after the Oshaola news yesterday. Nice work @arielle_dror and @lucyrushton12 !!
Jen Beattie moves to the NWSL 🤝
The 32-year-old leaves Arsenal FC and joins Bay FC. She signs a contract until the end of 2025 with an option for a further season.

Been talking about this with my team a lot lately. It's easy to get excited about the technical implementation of data problems and is harder to focus on the "why what" and "how will this be used." The latter is more important
Really into this framework. It's easy to get lost in the details in the world of data, but keeping this FW in mind helps us not miss the forest for the trees (s/o one of my favorite @shaneparrish isms)
In talking with a CEO of a Professional Sports team with a high AI / Machine Learning quotient, the way he unpacked how he thinks about solving the Data challenge in Sports was absolutely lights out.
1: Are you looking at the right data?
2: Is it presented in the right format? (not the way it looks but are you combining the right bits to reach the best conclusion)
3: Is it landing with the right brains?
4: Is it used to make the right decisions?
5: Are those decisions communicated correctly?
Keep it simple...

Four NWSL clubs are bringing in more than $10m in revenue in 2023 (per Sportico).
Three of them were founded in the last three years – ACFC, Wave, KC Current.
These franchises are quite literally some of the best startups in all of sports, & their investors are being rewarded.
