@Robotbeat I’ve watched a few stock analyses on SpaceX IPO by smart people, and none of them seem to realize the insane market that Starship could create. They’re basically like, “Hmm, Starlink revenue is growing at this rate, launch revenue at that rate, so SpaceX is overvalued.”
A gigawatt AI datacenter costs about $38B capex (and ~$1B/year op ex).
The SpaceX v1 orbital datacenter design is 70 kW per ton. At $250/kg launch cost, that's $3.5B per GW, <10% of cap ex. Op ex is lower and there is no permitting. On a few-years timeline this is going to work.
@bronze5542@teortaxesTex Not sure if it makes sense yet, but its close and almost all parameters are converging a direction where it makes more and more sense.
@teortaxesTex Once you spent too much time with the electricity grid/market on earth, the insane level of regulation to absolute inefficiency drives you crazy. At some point you are just ,*fuck it* we will do it behind the meter. And then you notice that SSO makes this 50x easier.
If you don't believe in markets, you'll always be predicting an apocalypse that doesn't come.
Markets represent the sum total of the efforts and abilities of your fellow men. And at scale, that means they can do almost anything.
This is great and they do deserve that. And, with some of the savings, we can zero out taxes on the bottom half of earners. The best way to put money in people's pockets is not to take it out in the first place.
@nikitabier@levelsio@X I heard from a few European CEOs that they went into retirement early because the were so annoyed of bureaucracy taking up a majority of their job, and taking the fun out of it.
@Noahpinion Yes but, most of the residential battery storage is built in combination with EEG (guaranteed price) subsidized solar. Thereby none of these batteries have a market incentive to deliver at the right time and are useless for the grid. Utility batteries are starting to grow though
A friend's startup is growing at 93% a month. I pointed out that her net worth is also growing at 93% a month, and that she can thus feel, in her own life, the falsity of politicians' claim that you have to do bad things to get rich. They're just focusing on making users happy.
