This office was running 49 million fake accounts until police raided it
Inside they found 1,200 SIM box devices and 40,000 active SIM cards connected to 80+ countries
The setup was used to create 49 million fake accounts for phishing, bank fraud, extortion, and human smuggling networks across Europe
A single SIM box can register thousands of fake WhatsApp, Telegram, and banking accounts per day
Police seized four luxury cars, froze $500K in bank accounts and $310K in crypto
7 people were running the entire operation
A convergence between AI & cryptography is necessary to break with AI as surveillance. The key metaphor is "tunneling": Cultivating many models & peer-to-peer training strategies, small models, encrypted models... How do we build it? How do we fund it?

@guillefix@matbogus I would honestly argue that any 'correlations' that get completely ate up by a tiny amount of added noise were honestly not that statistically significant to begin with, so in a medical context specifically you aren't losing much of interest anyway.
@guillefix@matbogus Well that is precisely what makes it a viable strategy to make everyone happy, you can set the epsilon values to a very low level of protection if people agree to it. That way people have some very low privacy whilst preserving most of the cross-correlations.
@guillefix@matbogus No YOU, want the model to know the things that make me unique. I don't necessarily want that, and wouldn't necessarily benefit at all from the data being shared. This is the typical altruist-adjacent mindset, 'lets do x bad thing to you, for the good of everyone'.
@guillefix@matbogus Too bad for engineers ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ do more with less dimensionality, or you won't get my data. It is that simple. If correlations between rows aren't preserved, and that is a good thing! And also not my problem, that is your problem for wanting private data in the first place.
