Let me tell you about the picture in Frame 1.

In August 2017, as a litigation lawyer in Lagos, I had work to do that required me to be at the office during the weekend.

There was only one problem that weekend.

I had a 16 months old son, no nanny and no one to leave him with at home so I asked my boss if I could bring him with me and she was gracious enough to agree. While I was working, my son fell asleep and I had to lay him down on the floor beside my table.

In that moment, I took a picture of him sleeping and made a promise to myself that if I ever had my own firm, at some point in that journey, no woman working with me who had a caregiver emergency and needs to be at work will have to lay her baby on the floor.

That same day, I thought of my struggles as a breastfeeding mother in the workplace and promised again that no woman working with me who had a baby will ever have to struggle for a private space to use her breast pump at work, relieve her aching breast to focus and save some quality milk for her baby.

Today, we finished the renovation of our office building complete with a nursing room.

Litigation is tough for women.

The firm should not make it tougher.

N76bn fraud case: EFCC witness says FG asked AMCON to intervene in Arik debt crisis

Bawa Kaltungo, an investigator with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has told the special offences court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, that the federal government directed the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) to intervene in Arik Air affairs.

In January 2025, Ahmed Kuru, ex-managing director (MD) of AMCON, was arraigned alongside Roy Ilegbodu, managing director of Arik Air (third defendant), Kamilu Omokide, receiver manager of Arik Air (first defendant), Union Bank Plc (fourth defendant), and Super Bravo Limited (fifth defendant), before the Lagos court.

I actually saw my father in this situation, sometimes, when growing up.
It was hard to see him in it.

But I'm glad he didn't hide this aspect from us all.

It gave us all thick skins and now helps our resolve even when we're short of cash for certain things.

We understood early that life must be lived even if the finances get strained sometimes.

I'm grateful to him. He made us understand the value of money and the sacrifice a father often makes.

Now, we're adults and understand the concept. We're largely contented and even if wealthy, we don't panic during seemingly dry spells.

Life's ups and downs, in many facets, were taught to us as we observed our father live life unashamedly.

I'm glad he did so and didn't think us all too young, or worry so much about how we'd view it when he went through it all.

He died at 50.
And quickly, many things made sense.

It seemed as if he had trained us for years after his demise. This is 12 years after and I remember it all vividly, enough to post a reply related to him.

Kids are often stronger than they seem, and their resolves can be well-shaped to stand the days of adversity when they come.

I don't plan to shield my kids from life's turmoil. I'll rather responsibly expose them to it, with the diligence and interest their lives deserve.

I'd love them to know that tough times can always come and when life is not looking like a bed of roses, it's not a hint for them to throw in the towel.

I'd rather do this than watch them grow up all soft and with no spine, such that they'd always need their hands held when tough times come.

What if I'm no more?
