🏍️ Industry calls for motorcycles to be removed from the U.S. – EU trade war

❗ In response to U.S. tariffs on €26 billion of EU steel, aluminium and derivated exports, the @EU_Commission announced countermeasures starting on April 1st, with a 50% duty on U.S. motorcycles above 500cc.

Further tariffs on all motorcycles below 500cc and electric models are under consideration subject to a public consultation. ACEM will respond urging the exclusion of all motorcycles. ❌

🌍At the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in Marrakech, the IMMA - International Motorcycle Manufacturers' Association, of which ACEM is a member, launched the publication “Safer Motorcycling: The Global Motorcycle Industry’s Approach to Road Safety.”🏍️

📢 This document provides essential insights and recommendations for policymakers and safety experts, outlining a Four-Stage Strategy to improve Powered Two-Wheeler (PTW) safety worldwide:

✅ Integrating PTWs into transport policies 🚦
✅ Promoting rider-friendly infrastructure 🏗️
✅ Encouraging lifelong rider training 🎓
✅ Investing in safety-related technological developments 🔬

With global road deaths set to be halved by 2030, this holistic approach calls for strong collaboration between governments, industry, and stakeholders to ensure safe and sustainable motorcycling for societal benefit.

📊 Motorcycle & Moped Registrations (Jan-Sep 2024)

🏍️New motorcycle registrations in key EU markets (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK) reached 885,500 units, up 1.3%.

🛵 Moped registrations fell to 132,533 units, down 14.5%.
