It took nearly 6 years for the GIMPS software to find it after the previous largest known prime. It was also the first Mersenne prime found using GPUs.

So what alternatives are there? One rollup that runs several VMs in parallel, and a single sequencer, looks like a better solution to me. It has all the benefits of a shared sequencer, plus it brings instant communication between VMs, as they exist within a single rollup.

Also, the shared sequencer will need to sustain the throughput of several rollups, which might cause it to become a bottleneck. One reason for a shared sequencer would be if rollups were able to communicate with each other, which is not the case.
