Resident Evil was likely the first video game adaptation designed to feel like an actual game. Most game adaptations rely on Easter eggs and fan service to generate a sense of nostalgia, but they rarely make you feel like you're playing the game.

​CRAIG, however, uses all sorts of video game techniques in his filmmaking. We get a tutorial level where the main character, Bryan, learns how to use his weapon in a controlled environment against a single, non-threatening enemy. From there, the movie features a clear progression of levels moving from the car to the barn, the barn to the house, and the house to the tunnel, and as each level progresses you can still see in the back where the character came from. As the movie progresses, the enemies increase in both frequency and difficulty, and the main character acquires stronger weapons to face them.
