So basically what I’ve heard, Jayden Daniels, Kliff Kingsbury and Tavita Pritchard are on the field at 4-5 in the morning by themselves. I’m praying for the rest of the league cuz wth 😂 #Commanders#RaiseHail
Just a reminder that Lamar Jackson & Myles Garrett both requested trades from their teams…
Terry McLaurin isn’t going anywhere. The team won’t trade him.
$GRAB & Business at the bottom of Pyramid 🧵
It seems many still misunderstood $GRAB or @AnthonyPY_Tan thesis long-term.
Little background: In 2009, Tan began his studies at @HarvardBiz Business School, where he met his co-founder Hooi Ling Tan. Having both grown up in Malaysia, they became good friends after sitting next to each other in a class called “Business at the Base of the Pyramid.”
When I kept pushing the thesis for most readers to 2-3 billion people TAM instead of the current 700m people, I simply understand @AnthonyPY_Tan thesis a little better and I don't want long-term shareholders to limit the company's thesis.
But first, We need to understand the concept of “Business at the Base of the Pyramid.”The actual concept paper is very long, so I will summarize it for you:
Business at the Base of the Pyramid(BOP) refers to a market-based approach to the world's poorest populations or roughly 4-5 billion people today that living from $2.5 to $5 a day as a viable consumer. The concept, popularized by C.K. Prahalad and Stuart L. Hart, suggests that businesses can generate profits while alleviating poverty by providing affordable goods, services, and economic opportunities to low-income communities. Instead of viewing the poor solely as aid recipients, BoP strategies see them as resilient entrepreneurs and value-conscious consumers, emphasizing innovative business models to serve these markets profitably and sustainably
Before I go further into how $GRAB will win over the long-term, I will tell you a story when I traveled to Vietnam. This Gentleman used to work in the construction space moving jobs to jobs and make $250 a month 6 days a week, 10-14hrs a day. At first glance, I saw scars and injuries from top to bottom due to lack of safety equipment. Now he is making $30-$40 a day driving for $GRAB(scooter). His wife has little Shrimp base soup kiosk, and is also selling on Grab SuperApp. $GRAB has brought x3 the average household income to this family with limited education background. This is no longer a theory, but a proven "resilient entrepreneurs and value-conscious consumers".
$Grab embraces Drivers/Merchants and Users as customer, and this Customer Obsessed over Competition will enable Grab to win over the long-term.
BoP strategies emphasize affordable, scalable solutions tailored to low-income markets. Grab’s SuperApp model consolidates multiple services (mobility, delivery, payments) into one platform, reducing transaction costs and increasing accessibility for users with limited resources. For example, GrabPay enables cashless transactions for unbanked populations, while GrabFinance offers micro-loans and insurance to small-scale entrepreneurs, addressing BoP challenges like limited credit access.
Many didn't believe $GRAB could be profitable back in 2020 Spac and beyond while trying to treat drivers like a human being unlike $UBER $LYFT $CART $DASH. But Bears were proven wrong from Q3 2024. $GRAB is now 3 quarters profitable, FCF+.
Now coming back to 700m expanding to 2-3B people. The next region may be India with 1.43B people. India has all the similar characters like current 8 countries with a massive TAM. $Uber is a major player with Ola competing in India. But Both $uber and Ola do not have the "secret sauce" passion that @AnthonyPY_Tan has, hence both are facing negative perception of the public from drivers exploitation, Sexual harrassment(safety issue), low liability with weak UI, active cancelation from drivers due to high fee and poor customer service.
Uber may sell or leave the entire India market to $GRAB. @Uber is still losing money in India after 12 years operating in India. Uber CEO is on $GRAB Board, so this is likely a very easy transfer of business to $GRAB but a new refresh. A true leader with proven "secret sauce" to succeed in this fastest growing economic region. "The bottom of the pyramid" in India makes around $150 a month, which is 80%-90% of the population. $uber business model will never work in India, It does not have the culture, the "secret sauce" that $GRAB has. I bet you @AnthonyPY_Tan may already have this conversation with Uber CEO, @dkhos. GRAB SuperApp will not just stop at India, it will expand beyond.
$GRAB raised $1.5B cash at 0% interest rate for this very reason, to expand. $uber as of FY2024 in India has revenue of $464m. Still losing money after 12 years. @dkhos may ask for entire operation for $2B-$3B. I would vote yes on this. $uber knows it cannot win in India. It doesnt have the passion or the strategy to win.
@AnthonyPY_Tan will continue his mission, to serve the "bottom of the pyramid", and that is 4 to 5 billion people TAM. What will that generate for $GRAB just 20-30% of this population on GrabUnlimited at $4.99 a month or $7-$10 a month 10 years from now adjusted to Inflation? How much GRAB will generate from ads with billion of transactional users? I will let you do the math.
The "Secret Sauce" will win. It proved most bears wrong from Q3 2024.
Disclaimer: I do have a large position on $GRAB on private porfolio and smaller position on Public portfolio. I finished my core position during the April selloff. I will continue to DCA over time.
Alright, that is it. Not Financial Advice!
